With pieces slowly falling into place.....I'm feeling positive that by pre-season the important OL will have taken form & is rounding into shape.

Now that leaves the final touch...A Pass Rush. For Jets' team & defense to have a successful '07' season.....Improvements in these areas are needed :

    1-Sacks (PassRush)
    2- + Turnover differential (Take-away/Give-away)
    3-Rush Defense

Jets' were ranked 25th overall on offense. Jets' were ranked 13th overall on defense. OK...Now you tell me where #1 pick & focus of Jets draft should be ?

Jets' ranked 25th on offense....How do Jets' fix that ? Where do you start ?
    - They ain't gonna change the QB (Chad), so what do you do next ?
-They upgraded the RB position ....a good start. What next, the OL ? (Blaylock)...Where's the beef ?

-Upgrade the TE position...or maybe a better blocking TE ???

So I say...Upgrade that OL...Go heavy on the OL position (All-Pro needed). Surround Mangold with 2 strong Guards. Build that wall for the Jets' QB doesn't get bum-rushed up the middle (Blaylock RG & Ramirez LG).

My 1st 3 Jets' draft picks picks would be...Blaylock at 25, Pass Rusher at 59 & OG/RT or another pass-rusher at 63. Everything after that just increases teams depth & strengthens team overall. Jets'

-People say a CB is needed, but the reality of the NFL that I see, is that aside from Champ Bailey; a good/fierce pass rush makes most CB's look good. If you give any NFL QB too much time

-TE Olsen at 25; he doesn't block well enough, he's a good pass catcher, but if your QB doesn't have time....nobody is going to catch the ball.

Well this is my 4 weeks until the draft....bored from not enough Jets' news, but yet accurate assessment of Jets' situation going into the season.

I still think the defence needs more key position players than the offence. The offence could have a few replaced, but the defence has a much lower average of skill between the players. We need more stars on defence like rhodes, while we already have some top players on offence (coles, jones, cotch, mangold)

i think mangini would rather put young talented guys in a position to be stars, than buy them

I agree with a lot of what you said. Actually while or total run defense on the year was 25th, the second half it was much improved. If we took 2 OL players and 1 pass rusher with our first 3 picks I would not be upset.

yeah, I agree-- I swear, I wouldn't mind seeing 2 OL picks on day 1 if the value was there. May sound crazy, but I really value the line, and think Chad would really benefit from the better pass pro, and the help in the running game- especially with Play Action probably being his greatest strength.

This is where I'm at as of now...

    TRADE DOWN....

Use four 2nd round picks to move around to get Two Guards, and a CB, OLB or DT depending on what falls.....

This is probably the first year in a while I haven't wanted to trade down. I like our pick, and think we can get a good player at a need.

My ideal first 3 rounds would focus on offensive line as follows:

    1st - Blalock
    2nd (1) - McCauley
    2nd (2) - Woodley
    3rd - Ramirez

    Booyah.

McCauley might have fallen to the Jets original 2nd rounder but there's no way he drops to the bottom of the 2nd round.

i think there's a real possibility mccauley does last to the bottom of the 2nd round. several CBs have moved ahead of him on most draft boards including revis and ross. mccauley will be the 4th or 5th CB taken.

Funny you say that because, Tangini likes to get that 2 for 1 thing going on. As you remember, Jets' traded down last draft day & secured extra picks. I see that this is something the Pats' like & Tangini is copying it also.

Pats' have had (2) #1st round draft picks for at least the last 3 years...if I'm not mistaken. This keeps them constanly enriching there franchise & Bellicheks' genius.

Right now....More picks is what the Jets' need. I see they need about 10 - 15 more players (about 8 new starters) to have a nice 3-5 y run as contenders.

On the points chart, our first rounder is roughly equal to both of Tampa's second rounders.

It's not the 25th pick I'm worried about... Sheesh, I think we could get ONE good guy there as well. It's those 2 LATE 2nd rounders that both might be right out of the money...

We all sit here and name the top picks that seem to fit the Jets needs.... Well, a lot of these guys are projected late 1st round to mid second round picks.....

I'm usually a TRADE DOWN person but, even moreso in this draft. There seems to be a Tier of talent that's pretty equal through the late 1st to mid second round....

Aquire 2nd round picks and try to get 3 of em!!!!!!

I am never opposed to this. My opinion has always been the more picks in the 4 rounds of the draft, the better.

I'd have to agree with you there. I definitely ouldn't be against a trade down, but I'm sure Tangini only does it if they know for certain that their man is going to drop that far (ie trading down and getting Clemens last year when he would've been our original 2nd round pick anyway).

  20. Good post.

Alot of the guys best suited for the jets fall within the 25-30 range, and dont exactly fill the needs of other teams in that selection range. I don't necessarily agree w/ trading out of the 1st round, but I think we can afford to trade down 3-4 picks to acquire some additional selections, and still get a guy that we are targetting.

W/ that said, there is a strong possibility that someone falls to # 25 that simply is too good of value to pass up and someone behind us would snag in a heartbeat. In that situation, unless the trade offer is through the roof, we simply have to take that given player based simpky on draft theory and where we stand as a franchise
