Great stuff bro and half of these 4th rounders I have no clue on about so props to you for how much you know on these guys but I just have one question... How come Bain got a B+? Were there better CB's available as Jasonjets said?
109. Jacksonville: Mason Crosby K: Nice value here.... The Jaguars really don't need a kicker, but he'll compete with Scobee and isn't likely to win the job. Not a great pick and there were better ways to go here. C+ 113. St. Louis: Anthony Waters ILB: Decent pick for the Rams, who also selected a top LB in Patrick Willis earlier in the draft. Will probably be no more than a depth or special teams guy here with all the bodies at linebacker. B From what I understand, Crosby is the highest rated kicker coming into the draft since Seabass. Most mock drafts that I have seen have him in the second or third round. For a team like Jacksonville that has problems on offense and the fourth ranked defense in the NFL, the acquisition of a special teams weopon like Crosby could be the difference between missing the playoffs and winning the Superbowl. I would say that your C+ grade of this pick tells us all we need to know about the quality of your grading. Waters was a probable first rounder before his injury. He will play in the NFL and he will start. Once again, your evaluation is far off the mark.
Crosby is more in the Mike Nugent range. Janikowski went #17 or #18 overall to Okaland in 2000. Crosby won't go near that high. I've seen him late 2nd at earliest, but more commonly mid-late 3rd round in mock drafts. You don't go for a kicker in the 3rd round if you already have a good one in Scobee... Is this guy that much better than Scobee? I know that Scobee has a strong leg I could very well be wrong about Waters. I'm going to look into him a little more. Hey, what I can say? There are people that complain when grades are high and people that tell me I do a lousy job when I don't give out a high grade for their pick... Remember, this is just MY opinion. Don't get pissed off because I didn't like the Crosby kick. This is why I don't give out F's or D's often...... ***EDIT*** I found a nice scouting report on Anthony Waters.... I'll change that grade a little.
If I had taken Crosby in round three you might have a point. I took him in round four. He was easily the highest value where I picked.
I wasn't really going for a NT. Dallas has basically no weaknesses at a starting position now, and with DL being the most important part of a 3-4, Thomas can play all over it. I did not NEED any other position, so I went with the BPA, that would fit this defense. Thomas can play 3-4 DE, a great pass rushing 4-3 DT, or even NT. I was not going for specifically a NT. Thomas was easily the BPA ther because like you said, he has 2nd round talent. I dont see how a 2nd round talent player can be graded a C+, because there was no need that had to be filled. EDIT: Also, I just read what you added how it is overkill for an already deep position. Well there is not a position now for Dallas that needs depth, especially with the recent signing of Ken Hamlin at safety. So getting one of the most talented players left there was, I think, a steal. And since when is there such thing as "too much depth," especially if all the other positions are filled.
The reason it's "overkill" so to speak is because even though they have depth, they only have younger players. Ikiaka Francis and Marcus Thomas from this draft... The starters are 2nd year players in Marcus Spears and Chris Canty. That's too many very young DEs. IMO, it's not good to have too many very young players at the same position... Also, in your last post you say that you expect him to play NT. There's not a whole lot wrong with a lot of depth, but you need some veterans at the DE position...
Anyway, I'm going to stop grading. You really can't grade picks in the 5th round and beyond... Or I can't anyway...
If you didn't know who Anthony Waters is, I am not sure you would want to grade some of these day two picks. I have spent a lot of time doing research and many of the guys taken in the last two rounds are guys that I am not too familiar with.
I would only do Day 1 and MAYBE Round 4... You can't grade late round picks, they can only add to a draft grade, but not take away from it... That is IF you all want me to do it...
We should all just grade our own drafts. I think we'd actually get the best comments if we all did that, because we all know why we did the things we did a lot more than anyone else would.
Probably not, but if someone can give an explanation as to why they made a certain pick, I'd certainly value that a lot more than someone just giving them a B- or a C+ because they have 2 CBs higher on their rankings, or something like that.
I'm down for that. I can have a comprehensive breakdown of the picks that i made and that my predecessor made by tomorrow afternoon probably.
