From the “do-anything” attitude he adopted after dealing with the transition from offense to defense early in his career to stepping up and playing middle and outside linebacker during the course of last season, Shaw is the embodiment of a Nittany Lion. His dedicated, fighting spirit and outstanding athleticism earned him preseason second-team All-Big Ten honors from The Sporting News, but you know that he will be striving to crack the first unit. Teaming with Paul Posluszny and Dan Connor to form one of the nation’s most talented and intimidating linebacker corps, Shaw is the only Nittany Lion to receive both the Frank Patrick Memorial “Total Commitment” Award as well as the Jim O’Hora Award (presented to the most improved defensive player). The embodiment of total commitment to the Penn State program, he started every game in 2005, opening at one of the outside linebacker positions the initial five games and then moving into the middle for the last seven. A former Michigan Gatorade Player-of-the-Year, Shaw is a talented, intelligent and competitive young man. He graduated with a 3.38 grade-point average and should be a strong contender for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors in addition to post-season honors on the field. 2005 Senior Season Despite being one of the nation’s top defenses in 2004, emerging as the only unit to not allow more than 21 points all season, one area where the Nittany Lions did not find success was directly converting turnovers to points. Shaw made quick work of achieving that goal in the 2005 season-opener. On South Florida’s opening possession, Shaw and linebacker Tyrell Sales forced a fumble that was scooped up by Alan Zemaitis and returned 16 yards for a quick 10-0 lead. Shaw delivered another crunching blow on a sack at Illinois, forcing a fumble that Dan Connor picked up and returned 18 yards for a score. The two forced fumbles were just a small part of a productive junior season for Shaw, whose athleticism, toughness, versatility and skills have greatly benefitted the Nittany Lions. He registered eight solo hits against Cincinnati and Central Michigan, with one sack against the Bearcats and a career-best two against the Chippewas. Shaw had eight tackles in the comeback win at Northwestern and added seven against Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan State, with a sack against the Illini and Badgers. Shaw played a significant role in helping the Nittany Lions lead the Big Ten in pass efficiency defense (106.6 rating) and rank second in scoring (17.0 ppg), total (304.7 ypg) and rushing defense (93.0 ypg) and sacks (41). Shaw was on the field for 726 snaps, topped by 78 against South Florida, Cincinnati and Michigan State. Posluszny won't be there by the time our pick is up. :sad: I wouldn't complain if they pick up Shaw, but then, I'm biased.
If we get a CB or OL at #25, this guy is my overall top choice with our first 2nd round pick... He sounds like a great prospect.
I graduated from PSU, and have seen him play his whole career. Was a LB last year, and DE this year-- I think he would be an even better fit in a 3-4 as an OLB than he was in the 4-3 as a either an end or a LB. Not really big enough even in college to be an end, but was still very productive. I have been talking to fellow PSU/Jets fans about him for a while- and think he would fit perfectly. He ran 4 times between the combine, and workouts-- all under 4.5, lowest being 4.43. In the bowl game vs tenn- PSU's corner Tony Davis returned a 90 yard fumble rec for a TD- Shaw was on the ground when Davis picked up the fumble, and caught up to him at the 10 yardline-- He's very fast. He also had a sack in the game. A lot of PSU guys fit with us this year, Shaw, Poz, Brown, Jay Alford (6-3 1/8, 303 5.08 40 26 reps I think) Hunt would have been great too had we not traded for TJ.
Rated by who? Gotta make your own decisions on guys man. If not, there are still plenty of sites who rank him in the middle of day one. Draft Daddy loves him, and I think that's about the most credible draft site there is.
He's a great blitzer, has good intelligence and is very versatile... And there's nothing wrong with 4.45 speed. Scott Wright on NFLDraftCountdown has him in the 2nd before we pick.
I'd like to see some accuracy percentages on drafts before I hear the word 'credible' in conjunction with any mock drafts. Don't get me wrong, I think mocks and draft profiles are entertaining and informative, but I have yet to ever see an accurate mock draft since mocks were conceived.
Here's another tip-- don't voice your opinion on a guy, when you don't know anything about him other than what a few lousy draft sites say about him. You can't back up your statement-- I can back up mine with facts, and opinions that came from watching him play for 4 years.

do you re-read your posts before you put them up? you're both negative and nasty all at once. we get it, you went to penn state and you've followed these guys for their entire career. you don't need to be a jerk about it. i think shaw would be a nice pickup in the 3rd round and over valued in the 2nd. cheers.
I love Shaw and Posluszny's versatility, smarts and quickness for the scheme. I see Shaw as our possible 2nd second round pick, and if Posluszny is there at 25, he will get some consideration.
The guy is smart and versatile. Of course he'd be a great addition. He played out of position last year and still did very well.
