ok...so i know the lions have a thing...call it a "history" of WRs in round 1 that isnt exactly what you would call "good"...BUT...

(even though i would like to see him in green and white)
IF the lions go after a guy like david carr in FA, then a great pick would be CJ....i know they have needs at other spots. but teaming him up with roy williams would be sick. they could use furrey in the slot....

carr is a certain upgrade over kitna...i know they are looking to move down..lord knows they need help along the lines and the defensive backfield. but with 2 solid wide outs (with the thinking that CJ pans out to be HALF as good as he can be) that would give detroit some potent weapons on offense...and with martz there it could become another one of the greatest shows on turf.

    what do you think?

it would take a lot of guts fr them to say hey, we know we have a shot at one of two franchise QBs, but we're taking neither. Instead we'll go with a retread, hope we can amke it work with him, oh and, by the way, how about ONE MORE first round WR.

I agree, Roy Williams and Calvin johnson together would be sick and surely, someone is goign to take a chance on Carr and its unlikely he's as bad as he has thus far looked, but the Lions?! That's gutsy... or stupid.

I'm with Vilmatic on this one. The lions best bet is to trade down to spot four with the Bucs so that the bucs can get a real QB or Johnson if he's available. the lions need both a star QB and a star oline and they need to get both in this draft. If I were them I'd trade down to four, take Joe Thomas from Wisconsin and go after Drew Stanton or Trent Edwards. People are writing these guys off but keep in mind that the best QBs in the draft are Brady Quinn, JaMaracus "Unproven" Russell, Drew Stanton and Trent Edwards followed closely by Troy Smith. Those are the top five QBs in this draft and people forget about everyone after Russell. I think they should beef up the OLine early and then go after Stanton or Edwards with their early second round pick and use the extra pick they get from the Bucs to take another OLine like Manny Ramirez. Then they get two solid OLineman in Thomas and Ramirez and a gunslinger to toss the ball.

I thought it would be a good idea too but they resigned Mike Furrey to a decent contract and signed Shaun McDonald as a solid #3.

I would definitely trade out of that spot if I were them. The fact that they're entertaining offers tells me that they like Backus as their LT long term (and with the relatively new deal, that's a fair assumption), and they'd be a lot better off with a handful of players than one at 2 who'll have the pressure of the world on his shoulders. Lions high picks don't usually stand up well under that.

Quinn has never done anything other than be a QB for ND. hes never, ever won any game of consequence. At least with Carr you have a guy that you know can play QB in the NFL. Carrs not old either. hes 26-27 years old. you know he can take the punishment. Give him a semi decent Oline, and someone to throw to, and someone to run the ball halfway decent, and he will show his skill.

I know it would take brass ones to do something like that. id rather he come to hempstead....but oh well. just a thought anyways.

I think it would be smart for the Lions to take a QB, but if they really think that CJ would be the best fit they shouldn't care about what the media will think, just how he would affect the team.

Why the faux nickname for Russell? All those guys are unproven on the NFL level obviously. As for the college game, Russell proved more than did Quinn.

    You left out Kevin Kolb.

Quinn ran a faster 40 than Troy Smith at his Pro-Day
