We needed a third guy, whether he passes Clemens to be #2 or not, you still need three NFL QBs. Who did you expect to sign for one year and compete to be a #2/3 guy? As people have mentioned, if we need him we're fucked anyway.
He was actually a second round choice if I'm not mistaken. ANd Espn is reporting that the contract was only for a year and only for $595,000. That is chump change in the scheme of things. I think it was a good move.
If the worst move of the Mangini era is signing a 3rd string QB, things must be going pretty good.
Why is Tui so bad? He started exactly 2 games on a horible OK team. If you judged Peyton Maning on his first two starts (on a better team) would you kick him to the curb too?
for 595,000 it really isnt that bad of a deal for a 3rd stringer with some experience...its not like we picked him up to be heir apparent to penny, wait one year and see what else hits the market
People not liking this deal are crazy to be honest. If he is on the field, besides a preseason game, the Jets are screwed anyway.
We could have traded our 7th for Manning. Our 6th round for Bush. And shipped off Blaylock to the Redskins for each of their 1st round picks for the next 10 years - and there would be posts on here about how Mangini/Tannenbaum are useless because they didn't concentrate on defence.
it's a good signing...he's a big, athletic kid who was money in college, and never got a chance with oakland...and when he did play, oakland was terrible...and he'll never play...
No one (including me) really knows whether this guy can play, but I do agree with others that this is not a backhanded slap at Clemens - if the front office was genuinely worried about him, I would have to think that they would have at least waited for Carr, and maybe been much more aggressive on the other higher profile QBs who have moved or will move.
What do these guys all have in common?( There are multiple answers) M. Tuiasosopo, #8 C. Nall, #16 D. Johnson, #11 L. Campbell, #6 Q. Porter, #5 D. Orlovsky, #6
I don't understand anyone who has a problem with this move. He's the third string QB. The only qualification for the job is that he be a living person. He's better than some other recent Jets third string QBs (Tory Woodbury, Kliff Kingsbury).
Agreed. He will probably compete with Kellen for the 2nd String spot. If he doesn't make it, oh well. He'll be around for 3rd string.
