Apparently Kevin Boss from Western oregon has had a really good workout. I would like to see how he blocks...but here are his pro day numbers: Kevin Boss TE (6-6 5/8, 253 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.71 and 4.72. He also had a 35?-vertical jump, 10-foot long jump and 15 bench presses. He had a phenomenal workout.
I dont know. Weighs 253, pressed 225 15 times? Thats only 5 more than me, after running 5 miles, and i'm 43, and 205. I hate the 225 lb press, they should have to press a proportion of their bodyweight. (P.S...and I'll throw this out there...If John Lott is a strength coach, how come he doesnt give those guys pointers on bench press form, before they lift??? Those guys all leave reps on the bench....)
He's got promising numbers but he won't go 2nd or 3rd round. More like 6th or 7th if he's lucky. This is the first time I've ever heard of him. :jets:
The next Tightend the Jets draft, I would hope he was able to run like a 4.5-4.6. The Big time Tightends in the league are Wideout Fast, I want that kind of TE. It doesn't have to be Gates/Crumpler/Gonzo, but there are alot of fast basketball player type TE's in the league now. No more converted Offensive line men for me.
I wouldn't rely on bench presses for strength that much. Strength is all about muscular synergy and tendon elasticity and strength. Most of the heavy benchers develope tendonosis and only work certain muscle groups in certain motions which can actually make them weaker. I'm not saying weaker is stronger, but I can deck guys who bench and squat twice as much as me in a simple 1-1 blocking drill. I would want to see this guy play. Additionally, 253 isn't really heavy at 6'6 5/8". At 6'4" 213 I'm fricking lanky: Boss sounds about right for a TE, especially one at his height (Remember, not just bigger but also taller usually means slower as far as 40 times go). Hell Shockey only ran a 4.66s 40 and he's almost two full inches shorter. JTuds do you have any numbers from any other drills on this guy?
From Draftcountdown.com Strengths: Has good size and the frame to get bigger...Has excellent hands...A solid athlete with decent agility...Great body control and ball skills...Really knows how to use his body...Adequate blocker...Terrific leaper...Works the middle well...Has upside. Weaknesses: He didn't play against top competition and will be making a huge leap...Not real quick or explosive...Timed speed is only average at best...He has some durability concerns...Is not very strong or powerful...Very raw and will need development. Notes: Also played some basketball in college and never devoted his full attention to the gridiron...Missed half of his senior season with a shoulder injury...He certainly has some physical tools to work with and could be a very intriguing long-term project AGILITY TESTS Campus: 4.63 in the 40-yard dash … 355 bench press … Bench presses 225 pounds 19 times … 500-pound squat … 325-pound power clean … 33-inch vertical jump … 33 1/4-inch arm length … 9 3/4-inch hands … Left-handed … 17/25 Wonderlic score.
