Why would we even bother. No matter what Yankees fans say, Mets fans will always spew some idiot crap back, and the fights go on and on.

We'll just keep enjoying our dozens of titles. You guys hang on to your big year...

did the red sox not win it in 2004, and the white sox in 2005? Not so sure the Red Sox were the same sort of team as the others.

    Mattingly
    Games: 1785
    At-Bats: 7003
    Runs: 1007
    Hits: 2153
    2B: 442
    3B: 20
    HR: 222
    RBI: 1099
    TB: 3301
    BB: 588
    SO: 444
    SB: 14
    CS: 9
    OBP: .358
    SLG: .471
    AVG: .307

    Hernandez
    Games: 2088
    At-Bats: 7370
    Runs: 1124
    Hits: 2182
    2B: 426
    3B: 60
    HR: 162
    RBI: 1071
    TB: 3214
    BB: 1070
    SO: 1012
    SB: 98
    CS: 63
    OBP: .384
    SLG: .436
    AVG: .296

In almost 300 less games, with almost 300 less at-bats, Mattingly is credited with a little less than 120 less runs, has more doubles, far more homers, more RBI, more total bases, FAR less Ks, has a slightly lower on base %, a higher slugging %, and a HoF level career average, which is a full 11 points higher than Hernandez career average.

Yeah, Keith was so much better than Donnie.

Now if you want to go defensively, we could probably argue all afternoon. That would be a far more subjective argument though.

    Hernandez could party.

He could hit the rock like nobodies business.

Really, he was a vacuum cleaner out there.

Nobody could get down the lines like him.

    Keith's 11 Gold Gloves > Mattingly's 9 Gold Gloves.

Again, this is a subjective subject, like I said. I could argue all day that the plays Mattingly made at first base were better than any other first baseman I've ever seen play the game. Does that make it true? Of course not, it's subjective.

You can't argue someone's defensive prowess, or contribution to the team via # of Gold Gloves. We've already established that in various threads, usually in regard to Jeter, and usually led by a Mets fan.

So again, I maintain that arguing defensive superiority for either of them is a lost cause. Arguing total value to his respective team would probably allow Mets fans more leeway toward a win, since the Mets won a ring under Keith, and Mattingly was the only player truly worth going to the park to see in the 80s.

But Mattingly still has the advantage of superior numbers in a shorter timespan, making him the overall better player. (BTW: I could also argue that Mattingly played the 2 more years worth of games that Keith did, he'd have those extra 2 Gold Gloves.)

that is the most retarded statement in the world.

both teams made the playoffs and lost, mets lost in a inferior national league.
