I'm still in disagreement and nothing you say will change my opinion. I'm sure that more folks on this board lean towards McCarrins NOT being a good receiver and a fit for this team, as opposed to the minority who think he performed well enough and can still hold the fort. It's great that he can go deep- if only he could master the art of actually closing on the ball and holding it after the catch. His drops and giving up on the plays absolutely happened more than once. Don't ask me for specifics since I don't keep all of the games on my DVR, as the space is taken up by Sesame Street, Blues Clues and Barney. However, I assure you that it was more than once. Exactly what "role" did he play last year? I'm not sold on Smith yet either and don't view him as our #3 at this point- he's still an unproven, raw commodity with a lot of potential. Stop using him on so many gadget plays and actually line him up at WR for more than one play a game, and let's see what he can do.
I am sure most folks would have a negative opinion of him- what does that mean? they look at his 2005 season and forget we had Brooks Bollinger most of the year, no OL and no running game. He was GREAT for us down the stretch in 2004 and was Chad's go to guy and last year he performed very well as our #3 the 2nd half of the season. he doesn't have that many drops. EVERY WR has drops, his weren't any more than any other WR it's just that he is disliked so people remember his and forget when Coles or Cotch drop a ball. he was our #3, he had alot of big 3rd down recs. Of his 23 recs, 12 went for 1st downs- that's a 52% clip and 7 of those were on 3rd down. Dwight was getting more opportunities when he was healthy but Justin produced more than Dwight and Dwight getting hurt actually turned out good for us. Justin had more recs, more 1st downs, they had the same # of 3rd down recs but Justin had 2 more 1st downs on 3rd down. Justin played very well for us during the 2nd half of the year.
Stats can be misleading, our D was awful the first half of the yeara nd our O kept us in games. The D got alot better th 2nd half but our was still producing. The D did a nice job of holding opponents to Fgs instead of TDs but needed key stops we could never count on them. They blew the Indy and both NE losses, our O blew the Chi loss.

It's completely overblown that Chad cannot get the ball deep. He obviosuly doesn't have the strongest arm in the World but he can get it deep.
I was stoking a fire that didn't need it. I know he can , but it does take his whole body to get it down there.
I think Ernest Wilford would be a great pickup. Could be our number 3 and a huge target for Chad in the Red Zone. If they get anyone on that list, I hope it is Wilford.

My thoughts exactly. Engram has shown himself to be very sure-handed. And Hackett showed a lot of spark last year. Besides those two guys, I'm not seeing a lot of impressive players on that list. Some good speed guys with bad hands (Drew Carter, Patrick Crayton). That's about it.
Whether or not JMAc is a good WR is debateable but what isn't debateable is that right now he is our best option for that role, really the only option. Brad Smith has a world of talent but do you guys really feel comfortable with him as the #3 and only insurance if Coles or Cotch get hurt? Until they bring in a better option, I hope they hold onto JMac. Also, please enough with this who is gonna get the ball deep nonsense. Pennington obviously doesn't have the best arm strength but that has nothing to do with getting the ball deep. He has proven over and over again that he can throw it deep..
I thought it was gonna be Brad Smith for sure. If he was on the field more often and not always being used as a decoy maybe we'd know what he can do when depended on.
