Wasn't Alex Bannister a hot topic when he was coming out? I don't know how he turned out, but talk about a big target!
Their only priority on day 1 and 2 should be to get players that can stop the run or pressure the qb. Without that they will never score enough points to win any any game no matter how many receivers they have.
They'll be plenty of WRs at the end of the draft. I must be the only poster here that doesn't think that BSmith is the answear at WR , so if we are letting JMac go then we are going to need one or two. Wallace Wright anyone?
I wish we could keep Justin, he did a very good job for us last year but I guess he wants to start somewhere.
I think Cimini is constantly too harsh on Chris Baker. Let Smith grow into a #3 WR, draft a young guy to support the corps of Coles-Cotchery-Smith and throw to Baker more.
Absolutely. He was our best WR in 2004, he slumped in '05 but he had alot of big catches for us last year especially after he finally embraced his role of not starting. McCareins is a GOOD WR.
To say that he did a "very good job" is a gross misstatement. The guy was a workable #4 last year at best. He gave up on too many big plays which went his way and dropped others. Don't let that one highlight-film touchdown pass cloud your vision.
he did an excellent job in the 2nd half of the year for us after Dwight went down. You ae letting your misconceptions of his 2005 season cloud your vision. The guy has been a very underrated player for us. people always criticize hm for 2005 but forget we had no QBs, no Rbs and no OL- it's hard to put up #s when that happens. He got downfield fir us averaging over 15 yds per rec and was very active for us the 2nd half of the year. obviously Coles and Cotch will get the bulk of the recs but in limited time Justin played very well for us.
I seem to remember him making quite a few over the middle 3rd downers which drew praise from me. On Baker yes he is. I hope this is the year Baker breaks out(finally). Brad Smith whilst a good athlete is too much of a tweener for me. He will never be as good a WR , not even close to McCareins .
McCarrins play last year is all I am considering, not his play in 2005. He did not play at a "very good" level. 23 receptions 347 yards 15.1 average 50 longest 1 touchdown How is this "very good" It's "serviceable"
I just want you to call him what he really is, a "fallback" receiver. But to elevate the guy and say that he played "very good" is a little misleading. Don't you remember his key drops and the fact that he gave up on numerous plays last year? Guys like Cotchery and Coles give the extra effort, i.e. extension and fighting for a yard- McCarrins is the complete opposite, essentially throwing his hands up in the air and saying "woopsie."
he was very good in his role. Every WR has drops and his 'giving up" was overblown. That happened once and it was a situation where it would have been almost impossible to break up the INT anyway. he's a good #3 WR, he can get deep and can go over the middle. I am not saying he's a great player but he's very good for the role he played last year and if anything happened to our starters we know he can be an effective starter. I love brad Smith's ability but is he ready to step up into a larger role? I hope so, if he is I have no worries at WR but if not we could be in a little trouble.
I don't see how we need someone to get the passes in the middle of the field we have 2 protype recievers to catch balls over the middle in Cotchery and Coles if we get another reciver WR we need someone to stretch the field and go on deep patterns.
Are you even watching the games? The Jets were 6th best in points allowed, with 18 per game..... And 2 of the teams above them were divisional opponents. The Problem is on the offensive side of the ball. .
