ROUND 3 65. Oakland: Manuel Ramirez OG: This draft is really coming along well for Oakland with one of the best overall prospects to come out in 15 years, a potential franchise QB in Stanton and now a big time run blocker with Ramirez. This was a solid value and he very well could start from Day 1. A 66. Detroit: Quentin Moses DE: Great steal for the Lions and fills a major need for them since James Hall was released. He might have been a mid first round pick had his senior season been as successful as his junior year. Nice pick here. A- 67. Cleveland: Josh Wilson CB: Very solid pickup for the Browns, who are a bit thin at CB with the release of Daylon McCutheon and the injury problems of Gary Bacter. In any case, this is a great choice for the Browns. A- 68. Tampa Bay: HB Blades ILB: I expected him to come off the board way earlier than this. With Shelton Quarles at the end of his career and Derrick Brooks in the same phase, some youth at LB is needed. Cato June takes one spot, Barrett Ruud will take another, and HB Blades completes this LB unit, and very nicely. A 69. Arizona: Charles Johnson DE: One of the steals of the draft so far. While I'm not too crazy over this guy as a prospect, that's just my opinion. He fills a need for depth at DE and is definately a steal this late. I don't know how he made it here... A 70. Denver: David Irons CB: With the horrible tradgic loss of Darrent Williams, a CB will be needed to take over his spot. That was why they got Dre Bly... However, this guy could have come off the board in the middle of round 2 if that counts for much... They are already stacked at CB with Bailey-Foxoworth-Bly-Paymah. C+ 71. Miami: Aundrae Allison WR: Decent pick here. However they have Booker/Hagan/Chambers already. What they needed here was a TE... B- 72. Minnesota: Ryan Harris OT: Good value, but is OT really a need? Marcus Johnson is on one side and Bryant McKinnie is on the other. Plus, they just picked Ryan Cook last year, who can play OT as well. C+ 73. Houston: Ryan McBean DT: Good pick here. Nice value and is a big need for the Texans. He is a little undersized though and might be a better fit as a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DE... All in all a good pick though. A- 74. Buffalo: Fred Bennett CB: Good choice for Buffalo, which needs a CB. He was the best CB available here and an overall good value. A 75. Atlanta: Buster Davis ILB: With Hartwell released, this is a big need and this guy is a MAJOR steal. He's also a great overall player who could be a first rounder easily if he wasn't 5-9 1/2. Great production and a great player... I can't give myself the only A+ though... A 76. San Francisco: Johnnie Lee Higgins WR: Solid pick here for a team that needs WRs. They have really stocked up on smaller speedy WRs with Higgins here and Brandon Williams in the 3rd round last season. Good player with good production, but I would have chosen a different WR here. B+ 77. Pittsburgh: Doug Datish C: Great steal and a great pick. This would have been decent with their 2nd round pick, so getting him here is a really great steal. With Hartings gone, there is a wide open Center position in Pitt. A 78. Green Bay: Jonathan Wade CB: The Packers continue their very good draft here with some very much needed depth at CB. Not only is there little depth, but 2 starters that are around 30. He might be the nickel back to open camp. A 79. Jacksonville: Sabby Piscatelli S: With Deon Grant heading to Seattle, their other safety in trouble with the law and Donovan Darius getting up there in age, a safety makes a lot of sense here and this guy is one of the best available (Second best, IMO)... A- 80. Tennessee: Dan Bazuin DE: There really isn't a whole lot of production in the DE spot opposite Vanden Bosch. This guy is a sleeper who could be a real steal for Tennessee. Some may say that a better DE was available, but Tennessee needs a pass rusher more than a 3-4 type of DE. Could be a steal... A 81. NY Giants: Marshall Yanda OT/OG: Great pick here for the Giants. Since Petitgout was released, there is an opening at LT, which was Yanda's college position. He supposedley also projects well to Guard in the NFL. Either way, great choice and steal for the Giants. A 82. St. Louis: Antonio Pittman RB: Solid pickup here. He forms a good tandem with Steven Jackson as he's a power runner and Pittman is a speed type of back. Their other backup is Steven Davis, which isn't ideal... A- 83. Carolina: Ben Patrick TE: Outstanding steal here for the Panthers. They could use a pass catching TE and to get him this late is very surprising. A 84. Kansas City: Doug Free OT: The Kansas City offensive line is aging and younger players are needed. Free could possibly play LT or RT, both are possible positions of need for the Chiefs. A- 85. Seattle: Brandon Mebane DT: Okay pick here. I would have gone in a different direction since it is questionable whether DT is much of a need. Solid player though who could help. B- 86. Denver: Craig Davis WR: The Broncos have a nice draft going here. Craig Davis is quite a steal and could eventually start opposite Javon Walker or become the slot reciever. In either case, this was a nice pick. A- 87. Dallas: Ikiaka Alma Francis DE: Although their defensive line is young, they lost some good depth when the Jets signed Kenyon Coleman. Francis fits their scheme is a good value this late. There might have been bigger positions of need that are of good values here though. B+ 88. New Orleans: Turk McBride DT/DE: Solid pick here. McBride is a smaller DT, which means he might potentially be able to play DE. This is a very good depth pick and could also be a great contributor on passing downs as a DT. A- 89. NY Jets: Paul Williams WR: Interesting pick here. This guy was an underachiever in college and has more potential than he does production. Mangini isn't the type to go for underachievers and I personally am not a fan of this guy at all. I would have prefered another WR here if any. C+ 90. Philadelphia: James Marten OT: Interesting pick here. Decent value, but they just got an OT in Winston Justice last year. He makes good depth and could the heir at RT once Runyan retires. B+ 91. New England: Tim Crowder DE/OLB: Great pick for the Pats. Good production in college and a very versatile player. Seems to be a great fit in New England and a great steal here. A 92. Buffalo: Steve Smith WR: Nice choice for Buffalo, who needs WRs. Smith was extremely productive in college and should be in the pro game as well. Should profile as a prime slot reciever. A- 93. San Diego: Antonio Johnson DE/NT: Interesting pick here. San Diego has bigger needs than this (WR/S), but I like this one. He could potentially play NT in the 3-4, which is a spot that could become a need since Jamal Williams is getting up there in age. For now, he'll provide good depth at DE. Good choice. A- 94. Chicago: Joe Newton TE: The Bears could use a recieving threat either at WR or TE, and they get a decent one here. He's a tall target and should help out Rex Grossman a bit. I would have gone with a different guy or possibly a WR or OL. Not a bad pick though. B 95. Indianpolis: Rufus Alexander OLB: Will at least provide depth in Indy at the linebacker spot. Since Cato June left, a LB is a pretty solid need. OK value here. B ROUND 4 ON NEXT PAGE
I don't think I could give someone an F unless a pick was extremely bad. I gave a couple of D's, but an F is just harsh and no pick has deserved that yet... I went back and edited a few grades making a few around a spot lower, but they're about the same. Also, I haven't given an A+ out. That will require the pick to be a big need, a big steal and a great fit. A certain player I have in mind that hasn't been drafted yet has A+ potential if he goes to the right place.... No names or positions though.
Nope. The man I am talking about is a steal to bad had IMO. I would have considered this guy as an A in the late 1st to the right team... If he goes to a certain team(s), than he might get an A+... You're going to have to wait and see..... My round 3 grades are at the top of this page, so you can always see.
While your grades were slightly off, this post is borderline delusional. The Jaguars were fourth in the entire NFL in lowest points allowed and you have the nerve to suggest that a linebacker or a safety is a bigger need for them than WR or OL. The fact is that the Jaguars need help on offense and lots of it. Jarett is falling to the second round in real life? Can I have some of what you are smoking? Ginn or even Meachem may be taken over Jarrett but he is the best WR in the draft. No way he drops to tround two. Kalil will most likely take over the starting job at center, Meester can move to guard. BAP is never a bad idea even if there appears to be no immediate need. In the days of free agency and the salary cap, those holes in the roster will open sooner or later. Isaac Bruce is 100 in NFL years. Holt isn't getting any younger either. Curtis was a big loss for the Rams. Gonzales fills a definite need and was the BAP where he was picked. When one of the rams starters breaks their hip on the way home from the bingo parlor, Gonzales can step up. Your initial grades weren't all that bad but your defense of your grades is abysmal. You have made some grossly exaggerated claims, ignored the value of taking the best available player, smeared the name of a blue chip player, and over-valued the existing rosters of St. Louis and Jacksonville. If you can't support your grades, just admit that you made a mistake.
Ok. I did support my grades, obviously we have different opinions on needs and vlaue, but how does that make my statement wrong and a "mistake." You can think differently than me, but just because you do, does not mean I have made a mistake. I don't agree with your opinions, but if that is how you feel than fine. Stop attacking other posters and thinking what ever you say is how everyone else should feel. I am not even going to argue with all of the picks again, because I have already stated my point about them.
I thought you were the same guy doing the grades wen I posted. My bad there. The fact that two other posters disagreed with you and no one agreed with you is a good sign that you may not have had the facts to support your arguements. You are entitled to your opinions but if you are going to bash the picks made by another poster without evidence to support your views be prepared for a strongly worded retort. While you may not think much of Jarrett I have not heard any news or even rumors that he would slide to round two. Rather than state that you think he is worth a second rounder at best, you did claim that he is slipping into the second round. That would suggest that most of the GM's agree with that view and there has been nothing published anywhere to suggest that Jarrett had fallen in their eyes as well.
Well I did include evidence and I did state why I thought what I did about those picks, but you just did not agree with what I had to say. Like you said, I am entitled to my own opinion, and I told you it. I don't need "evidence" for my opinion and you don't need to say my opinion is wrong or a mistake. Just because two other GMs disagreed with me, does not make my opinion incorrect, maybe someone thinks I am right, maybe no one does, but just because you do not like my opinion and think it is incorrect, does not make it actually incorrect. About the Jarrett thing, I have seen him slip into the 2nd round on a few mock drafts, and have seen him as a late 1st rounder, after Meachem, Ginn and sometimes Bowe were selected. I did not think I had to make a bibliography for you to make a point.
Hmm, that was the guy. That was not the guy I was thinking of. It is a nice pick, I wouldn't call it a "major steal." But a very nice pick. I think it was definitely A-/A worthy. But also a nice pick because Keith Brooking is getting older, and the LB core in Atlanta isn't too great anyway. Nice pick, but now I can't get the "major steal," damn!
I was actually thinking of Buster Davis as the Panthers 2nd round pick but David Harris is alot better than Davis. Davis has a cocky and bad attitude according to alot of scouts and Davis is pretty small to be a MLB IMO. I thought it was somebody else that you were referring to as a ''steal''.
I am pretty sure I know who the guy you are taking about as the better safety, and I think that they are pretty equal, like amazing similar in value and ability, so it was really a toss up between them.
