yes I am a prick-- and I'm glad that idiots like you think so- it shows me that I'm still on top of my game. Anyway, I am sure Blaylocks 5.10 40 time shows incredible mobility for a 330+ player. I really don't see your boy running anywhere close to that- especially with those knee surgeries. His lack of mobility is his biggest flaw according to all the experts, so I really don't know where you get your info from. I've seen Blaylock play, watched his combine, watched youtube-- he's very mobile. Your boy is not even in the same league as Blaylock, and I'm pretty sure everyone on this site, and in NFL circles agrees.
Your facts are mixed up-- the injury Ramirez played through had to be operated on this off-season-- forcing him to miss workouts- so I don't know how you say he has come back from it. Because of this, he is FALLING down draft boards, not rising. If you fought for ben Grubbs, or Arron Sears, you may have an argument, but this guy is at best a late 3rd round pick, I see him getting drafted in day 2. He's not better than Blaylock. Blaylock was among the biggest, the strongest, the fastest, and the smartest of all the lineman at the combine. I can't stand the Dark Horse statements... It's like saying you think Rhema McKnight is better than Calvin Johnson.
Grubbs is not a bad choice either but I am not sure if we need two guards unless Blalock can play OT. Kendall definately has to be replaced .We still need a RT.Getting two from this group of Beekman/Grubbs/Blalock will be awesome any way we do it whether with our first two picks or with our first and third pick.
Free Agency Free Agency is where you pick up positions of need----in the draft you have to hope the guy you wanted was not taken already THE JETS HAVE DONE NOTHING IN FREE AGENCY Barnes for Askew is a wash----we got One DL from the cowboys --prob a backup What happened to all the free agency money we were told the jets have???? SO FAR ---NOTHING!!!
If I were the GM I would have to look at the best available prospect . By that I mean which player has the most potential to be the next best Jet what ever position it may be as long as the team has a need in that area . Now I'v seen threads which want the Jets to move up and the only way I say it's ok is if the Jets don't give up any developed talent I.E Vilma Jericho or Coles . Just picks for picks . Now the O line has issues with blocking but the T.E's productivity could be a hellova a lot better . Speacial teams could also improve but I wouldn't want to see picks in the early rounds used to do this . Not to knock Nugent he has potential and had a good year but a kicker in the 2nd rd damn . Look at That Aussie pick up the Jets made . Now thats ingenuity he's a hell ofa punter .
Actually, you build your team depth and areas of need in free agency/trade, and build the core of your team through the draft. So far, they've filled a hole at RB, a hole at DE, a hole at lead blocking FB, and soon enough a hole at pass-rushing OLB. I'd say they've done a pretty good job so far. You don't build the core of your team with high priced free agents unless you have a LOT of cap room, or you are 1-2 moves away from competing for a championship. Neither applies for the Jets (they had a lot less cap room than originally thought... and they're not close to competing for a title). Mangini/Tannenbaum put a long term plan in place when they took over. Just because they over-achieved the first year, doesn't mean they should throw that plan out the window. I hope, and expect, next off-season will be similar to this year as well. Continuing to build depth with free agency, and building the core of a future championship caliber team through the draft. That's how you win in this league.
Free agency is mostly where mediocre teams get worse, as most of the teams that signed free agents did this year. It's unfortunate that the Patriots decided to make a big splash, but they made the splash that made sense for them. The moves they made would not have been remotely as good as for the Jets.
If yer gonna hate on Ramirez, and be in man love with Blalock.... at least spell his name right. I saw Ramirez take that 19 year old phenom DT to school at the senior bowl.... and that was with a partially torn patella. BTW, there ARE some draft pundits who say Ramirez could be the best guard in the draft, given the fact that he played his whole senior season and the senior bowl on a bad knee. Ramirez also did very well with the bench press at the combine.
I would add myself to the list of people who want Ben Grubbs or Justin Blaylock. If they are truly going to pick the best player available it would probably be one of these guys. They also need depth at guard because Brandon Moore is just OK and Kendall is starting to get up there in years. Look at the money good guards have gotten over the last 2 years, it would make the decision more reasonable. I know CB is becoming a star position, but I'm not sure the 4th CB taken in the 1st round will be any better than what we have.
Yea dude....lets not let facts get in the way of you being right... Where have you read Ramirez has been falling? Yes, the injury forced him to miss workouts, but that doens't mean he's been scouted: Campus: 5.14 in the 40-yard dash ? 550-pound bench press ? 785-pound squat ? 24-inch vertical jump ? 7-foot-10 broad jump ? 33 1/8-inch arm length ? 10 5/8-inch hands ? Right-handed ? Wears contacts. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2007/ramirez_manuel Those are disgustingly beastly numbers. Right now, his biggest flaw is that he can't, or doesn't pull much or for very long. Thats hilarious to see that you think he'll be a day 2 guy considering he looks like a mid-2/early 3 right now, and hes been moving up on most draft boards from what I've been seeing.
From NFL.com - pro-day workouts... "Manuel Ramirez G Ramirez (6-3?, 330) was not cleared to work out. At the Combine, he bench-pressed 225 pounds 40 times." That's the current info from NFL.com- not the estimated/old info you have. I don't care what that said, other than the bench, he wasn't cleared to workout at the combine, or his pro-day-and that is a FACT. As for those nice quotes you cherry picked from various sources-- I can get you plenty that show his negatives. At least the link I provided on Blalock told the whole story, and wasn't cherry picked.
Dude....the link I gave had his weaknesses too. And they're in my post... And of course...this is ignoring all of my original point that drafting Blalock (if someone like Spencer, Meachum, or Houston is there) isn't that big a deal considering the amount of talented guards there are in this draft...
Well, there is the same, if not more depth in this draft at CB, WR and OLB, so that argument is out the window-- anyway, the issue I have is with you saying Ramirez is better than Blalock-- You may like him, and that is fine, but there really is no evidence of him being the better player. Every analyst has him rated higher, he played at a bigger program for 4 years, won a title, is just as big and strong, was one of the fastest, most agile linemen at the combine, pulled in college, and scored an 1100+ on his SAT's in 7th grade- so his smarts are also a plus. Ramirez has good size and strength, but questionable feet/speed, a MAJOR injury history, and played in a BS offense. If Blalock wasn't there at 25, I wouldn't hate seeing us get Ramirez later in the draft, but if I had the option to take blalock at 25, or Ramirez in the 3rd - I would take Blalock in a heartbeat- I think he is a guy who can start right away, and offers flexibility to play at G/T-
How about Josh Beekman at #59 or #63? He seems like a good fit. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/og/joshbeekman.html
Beekman is the guy that I really want the Jets to take if they can't or don't pull Blalock in the first rounder. He's a mauler, and as much as I can't stand BC, they produce some terrific offensive linemen. I'd be thrilled to grab Beekman, and something tells me he'll be available when we pick, though it's 50-50 at this point.
I agree about the hatred of BC and how they produce quality linemen, but i'm not so high on Beekman. His label of being an "Overachiever" always scares me especially w/ a day 1 pick, and his lack of height(6'1) also scares me.
