BTW, GH broke the rules also by saying it was tough for him to decide between Beason and Timmons, lol.
I need inside linebackers in the worst way having lost Donnie Edwards and with Randall Godfrey being a hundred years old, but I don't love any of the inside linebackers in this draft other than Willis and Poz {who is a really an outside guy}, so I'll take shot on the OLB from Florida State and move him to 34ILB .. he's a little small at 235 Pounds, but we'll put another ten pounds on the kid if necessary, and that will make him the same size as Godfrey {245} I say "if necessary" because he's bigger than Donnie Edwards {227 Pounds} right now, and the Chargers can get away with that because their D-line is massive across the board with a legit NT {Jamaal Williams} in the middle, so their inside guys are more free to fly around and make tackles as opposed to wrestling with OG's So I'm drafting Larry Timmons {talented kid with a big upside}, and I'm moving him to 34ILB Don't worry about it kid, just go run to the ball and hit people, you know how to do that
Just me I guess, but aren't most Larry's really Lawrence's? BTW, we can't do that with Timmons .. the Chargers can because their D-line averages around 320 Pounds across the board, with a dominant NT in the middle .. if Jon Vilma had that massive line in front of him he'd be free to run around and make plays too .. that's why Donnie Edwards could excell at 34ILB with the Chargers at 227 Pounds
Thanks PA Sometimes you have to think outside the box .. I need 34ILB's, Timmons was the BAP, excellent value in that spot, and I have the D-line that would allow me to move him to 34ILB .. which has been proven because I didn't have BIG 34ILB's in recent years, but that massive D-line made it irrelevent, or less relevent, they could still run around and make plays
I think the Bears really needed this guy or one close to him in talent with Briggs throwing a hissy fit.
That was a reach for Chicago IMO... They could have gotten him with our old 2nd rounder easily. They could have really used a young offensive lineman or even a WR.
Well what do you figure fellas, I like Ross, I rank him the number 4 CB in the draft and with the loss of Harper and still good value it seemed to fit. Indy is not quite BPA but I got one of my five ranked guys from overall first round board
Wow Kurt, Drew Stanton is quite a reach with the 33 IMO. First, i dont really see him going off the board any before your next pick in the 3rd round. Stanton, although has put up good numbers in all his workouts-senior bowl etc., he has never performed well in a big game and seems incredibly indecisive in the pocket. The Raiders are looking for a future starter, and IMHO I dont see Stanton as anything more than a career back-up(which i guess could be a starter on the Raiders).
I disagree completely. Stanton has late first round talent, has been a tough emotional leader, and has the mobility to escape the pocket behind that crumby Raiders OL. Sure the argument can be made that he fell apart in big games, but as a die hard fan of the school he hails from..that entire program has crumbled in virtually every big game over the past decade or so.To me it's a moot point. He may take a year or so to work out some kinks in his mechanics..but there's no rush w/ the Raiders rebuilding, he'll have plenty of help from CJ, and will be able to make plays w/ his saavy and mobility alone, which will only help the confidence within his development. IMO, after CJ, this is the perfect follow up pick for the Raiders
I respectfully disagree although you do present your argument well. You say that Michigan St. always crumbles in big games therefore Drew Stanton crumbling is a moot point. Well isnt the fact that there are 0 starting QBs in the NFL from Michigan St. kinda prove your point to be a moot point? Not to mention he has a pretty big history of injuries and such. If the Raiders bring in a veteran QB, then maybe. But why not wait a round? I dont see any team in the second round taking Stanton.
Jim Miller and Tony Banks are 2 former starters that come to mind(may not be great examples) but nonetheless, a QB's college doesn't make much of a difference these days as there are very few starting QB's in this league w/ common colleges. As for Injuries, that I can agree w/. That is certainly a risk w/ taking Stanton..but you figure...w/ this OL....what QB ISN'T an injury risk? At least Stanton can escape the pocket and avoid some blows. As for waiting another round... look at the teams in need of a QB that passed on one in the 1st round.... Minnesota, Miami, Possibly KC, possibly GB, and Detroit, who consequently just took trent Edwards further proving my point. IMO Stanton has late 1st/early 2nd round talent, he was a major target of mine, and there are/were too many teams behind me who mightve considered taking him in round 2.
Excellent value pick at a position of need {Colts lost Nick Harper} Colts would probably jump on Ross if the first round fell this way, plus they play a Cover-Two which probably suits him best If I needed a Corner, I would have taken him for the Chargers at 30 That's why I took Timmons .. BAP VALUE .. I just had to think outside the box a little bit to slot him into a position of need I looked at the size of our current/former 34ILB's, looked at the size of our D-line, and pulled the trigger on the BAP IMO You filled a big need with BAP VALUE, without having to get cute .. it was a no brainer
Gotta watch out about second guessing yourself Like the old saying goes .. STUDY LONG and you STUDY WRONG Or like muh-man in Risky Business said .. Sometimes you just gotta say WTF
