with the patsies using up allmst all their cap why not sign assante to a offer sheat i know 2 number ones suck but lets be honest is there any one at 25 this year that is going ot have the impact that he will plus if ne does match they will screw up their salary cap. why not get th ebets cover guy out there to cover the ne receivers than 1 of their own. what you guys think
I thought he was an exclusive franchised player, which would mean we cannot offer him a contract. But even if he was non-exclusive there would be no way I would give up two number 1's for him....
Sorry, just checked, he is non-exclusive like you mentioned http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchise_tag#2007_Franchise_Tagged_Players
We can't give New Enlgand even more picks, I think 3 first round picks this year and 2 in next years draft would just about ruin our chances of ever beating New England again for the next 7 years at least. If ya just wait one year samuel will be available in FA.
If not for the fact that NE already has two #1s in this draft, I like the idea. Being aggressive and messing with their plan always sounds good to me. Maybe this isn't the year to do it, but it's an excellent idea for the future.
that was pretty funny! i like assante though...i want to see him here, picking brady off. hopefully they dont get anything long term with him, and he keeps from gettng tagged next year. hey ballhawk, what is it you dont like about samuel?
I don't get the Samuel hype...he's good but he's not THAT good. I don't consider him anything near "shutdown" corner right now. Seems like people here treat him like he's better than Champ.
Patriots | Samuel will not report to team's offseason program Mon, 12 Mar 2007 06:02:56 -0800 Albert Breer, of the MetroWest Daily News, reports New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel will not report to the team's offseason program without a new deal in place, according to his agent, Alonzo Shavers. Although franchise-tagged free agents are allowed to participate, most players do not in order to protect their financial interests. Samuel is scheduled to earn $7.79 million in 2007 as the team's franchise player.
Are you MAD? Overpay for an overrated system player AND give our chief rivals two more 1st round draft picks...yeah, that sounds like a great idea!
while i agree i would want to give the pats any picks....that "system" player would be comming into the very same system. he would flourish here.
Because he was tendered as a non-exclusive franchise player, Samuels is only scheduled to make 5.8 million next year not 7.79. The Pats basically screwed him out of 2 million; I'm sure he's not a happy camper....
First of all, i wanna say hi to everyone around here, i?m from Germany, and i?m a Jets fan for several Years now. I hate the idea of giving the Pats 2 first round picks, cuz i think the pats? team is getting old, and i belive in 2-3 years, when most of the key players on our roster are in their prime, they will need to rebuild their D the pats LB?s and Safties are getting old, and gonna loose a step i belive they got 1 maybe 2 shots left, before we take over the divison for a long time. So y should we give them the opportunity to rebuild, only to get a player that will probably leave them next year. Trading 2 firsts for Samuel creates a small problem for the Pats now, but solves some big problems, that they are gonna have in a few years. to me, sounds like a bad idea!!!:gpc:
