There's been a lot of confusion and warring going on here about GM Mocks, so I figure I'd be the one that started the thread for the real deal, going to go as long as we can, try like hell to finish mock draft. I think it would be a mistake to have just one person in charge of it all, instead, have 4 or 5 guys all with the ability to make picks for missing GMs, settle disputes, and things like that. I know Jetfan119 did a good job trying to get the "official" one working, and I guess MC was in charge of the Quick mock so having them be apart of that council of commissioners would be ideal, and any other regular posters that want to should just make their presence known. I do think there are a few things that are key to this being a success: 1. Only regular poosters that we know are going to be there. Even if that means a few people doubling up, it's OK, the key is doing this to the best of our abilities, and jEtSfanz52273 missing his pick for the Panthers every round would suck. 2. Trades, if they're in there, only picks. Also, there should probably be a trade commish, that handles all the deals. No more of the I think he accepted stuff either, both GMs email the trade commish or no deal. 3. The "I Suck" List. Those people that miss picks will be given another chance to return to there team, after all, sometimes mistakes do happen. If someone misses a pick, they go on the I Suck list, if a GM is on the list, that means that the next time the pick comes up, one of the Commissioners can pick for them without consulting that GM. However, if the GM is there, makes his pick a couple times, he can be removed from the list, and regain his place of honor. 4. Schedule. I really don't know how you guys would want to run a schedule for this, or if hour limits are enough for you all. This one is totally dependant on feedback. 5. Again, the multiple commish deal is crucial to the survival of the mock in my mind. JF119 and MC, I hope you guys want to have that role again, and anyone else feel free to take up a slot as that one. I'm not saying that I neccessarily want to be one of them either, but I will if I have to. I just wanted to get this thing started. 6. Most important, veteran members, please. If you're still relatively new, I'm very sorry, but we need to finally get one of these things done, if in some way to validate all the time we put into these things. I commish'd one of them two years ago, and I believe we got through 5 rounds, but by the end I was doing almost every teams' picks; we're trying to avoid that here. So, instead of opening the floor to people taking teams right away, how about we just establish the GMs first. So, people that want a team, state that you do in this thread. Remember, it's not a first come first serve deal, we're going to try and put this thing together as solidly as possible. Also, if you want to help out as a commish, trade commish, help select GMs, whatever, feel free to post that in here or PM me I guess. Again, if you would want a team in this, Post Here, if you want to mention a few teams you might want, go ahead, but team selection will probably be done later on. Oh, and if you want to comment on the 6 Items I posted before I'd greatly appreciate it. JUST ADDED, the rules borrowed from the great Jabba on his JI mock, thanks again Jabba. Also, we're going to establish the precedent that once a person makes their pick, they will PM the next GM in line so there's no excuses for not knowing you're up. 1. Between the Hours of 8 AM and 1 AM each GM has up to four hours to submit his pick, but that does not mean he has to take all four hours ... the faster you can make the pick, the sooner we can keep the chain moving ... if you are an hibitual four hour man, you will be replaced upon my discretion 2. The clock stops at 1 AM and restarts again at 8 AM, so if you go OTC at oh say, 10 PM, you will have until 9 AM the next morning to submit your pick, that would equal four hours in total when the clock is active 3. YOU MAY continue to submit picks after 1 AM, that just means the clock is inactive, but YOU CAN continue to submit picks if it's your turn and you're still awake ... in fact, please do! 4. If your pick is approaching and you realize you may not be available to make the pick in a timely fashion, or make the pick at all, it is your responsability to find a poster you can rely on to submit the pick on your behalf ... you can either send him your picks via PM or simply allow him to make the choice as he sees fit, but the responsability is YOURS 5. If you miss one pick you get a warning, if you miss two picks YOU'RE OUT. * You all saw my part about the I Suck list. 7. As Commish I reserve the right to change the rules as I see fit and toss someone as I see fit ... for example, if you miss one pick and are not heard from till the next time you go OTC, you will not be given a second chance to stall the draft for another four hours ... in that case you will simply be replaced the moment you go back OTC, because you have clearly disappeared 8. Let's keep it fun ... good natured ribbing is acceptable and part of the fun, but mean-spirited flaming is not ... I know the difference and I WILL DECIDE if that line has been crossed, and you cross it at your own peril 9. If you are not a newbie and you have PM privledges, please make sure your PM's are activated and your mailbox is not maxed out ... this so we can alert you when you go OTC ... and if you do not have PM privledges, it is your responsability to be extra diligent and check the board as often as possible 10. If you know someone is OTC, please PM that person and alert them ... do not wait for someone else to do it 11. If the clock expires on a GM, the first pick made for that team by one of the other GMs or commissioners will stand. 13. If you are on the board when you are OTC, and you split without submitting your pick, clock or no clock that is grounds for immediate dismisal 15. If a replacement GM is required we will use the STANDBY LIST in the TEAMS/GM's and Standbys thread, which can be located at the top of page one, under the list of TEAMS/GM's. The order will be taken into consideration, but in the interest of time not at the expense of availability. In other words, if the first standby is not here when a replacement is needed {i.e. when that team is on the clock}, we will simply look for the next in line, or the following standby, until we have secured an available standby at that precise moment .. but if the team in question is not on the clock, we will simply send the first standby a PM and wait for his response. If he has not responded by the time that team goes OTC, the process of finding an available standby, AS DESCRIBED, will immediately commense
excellent GH, I was gonna suggest you take control of this but wasn't sure you would be into it. I'll help out if you need, I just couldn't commit to running it. Lets get this started as soon as possible, get the owners in and make sure they get a PM when the draft is starting.. I agree it should be only for regular posters who check the site every day.
What ever you guys decide is fine with me. I would like to keep the team I have now though (if possible.
Sounds great... I would like to be a part of this. I know you said we shouldn't pick teams yet, but I'd like to throw mine out there for the hell of it: I'd like New Orleans and/or Arizona.... Unless the Jets are open of course. They're my first choice.
Good idea. I would help if you need to (if you want to make the Picks Only thing again, I would be willing, or anything you need help with.) Also, I would be willing to take 2 teams. I agree with almost everything you said, except for the trades. I am not sure how great they work. They add to the realism, but also take time, because both parties may not be online at the same time. I wouldn't mind trading, but I also don't love the idea, as it may get to be a hassle. One more thing, just a suggestion. We should make a date, and time to start this all, when all the GM's (or atleast msot of them ) are available. That we we can begin the draft, and get the first few rounds done really quickly, like 5 minutes a person, because everyone will be there to pick. Just an idea.
I would take too teams... preferably the Buccaneers and Cowboys (unless the Jets magically pop open).
Sounds good, what would be my job if i accpet to be in charge of it? and if you would like 4 or 5 people to be in charge, theres a few people who i notice always in the draft section (jasonjets, james hasty, bakermaker, jetfaninpa) Also, i dont like trades. too messy IMO. but im fine with them. oh, and im in.
Same here on the trades. Too time consuming. We can't even get people to make their picks on time, let alone waiting around for trades. But what ever you guys decide is ok with me.
If you want to be one of the guys in charge it would basically be helping to keep this thing moving along as swiftly as possible, making sure picks are in order, GMs are notified of being on the clock, etc. Much the same as in the other two that were going on. Plus there'd be a few other people that are going to be doing the same thing as you, so it'd make everyone's job a lot easier.
I'm here all time and would be like to be one of theCo-Commishs. I believe all regualrs who have made their picks should have 2 teams.
I think we need to make a list of 16 regulars on this draft site and PM all of them to get their commitment with this new draft.
What do you guys think, 16 GMs each with two teams? That does sound like a pretty good idea, it'd keep everyone interested because they'd need to be here more often, plus it is easier to do it with 16 guys we know will be here. Though, it would naturally mean less open spaces. Also, MC, make sure that no one that flaked on your draft is trying to get into this one. Thanks for helping run this thing as well, same to you WW.
That sounds like itll work, perhaps even having "Nominations" for the spots right on this thread. I hate the idea of making this into a super secret elite club, but I think there is a decent sized group of posters who always make their picks on time, whom lose some enjoyment w. the mock drafts due to delayed picks from posters who dont visit all that often.
