There are three guys I really like for our first pick.

If we stay put (or move up a couple spots) I would love to have Justin Blaylock.

If we move down a few spots Brandon Merriweather is the pick.

If we move down a few more spots Victor Abiamiri would fill our need for a pass rusher.

    Yep.

D'Brick, Mangold, and Blalock become the foundation of a dominant OL for the next decade.

I think this would be my list right now:

    1. Dwayne Jarrett. I know WR is not a pressing need (though Coles has a lot of milledge on him), but if he's there at #25 you can't pass on him IMO.

    2. Chris Houston

    3. Justin Blalock

    4. Anthony Spencer

A safety in Merriweather? Why on earth will we do that? I think Rhodes Coleman/Smith is more than adequate. There are too many holes on this team to worry about getting a safety .

I am not in love with the idea of taking another OL with a first round pick. You can get a quality G or RT prospect into the third round this year.

At this point I'm hoping one of the top WRs is available, either Bowe or Meachem are on the board I'm taking one of them. If they are both gone I'd go with Spencer..

Thank you. The Blalock obsession is crazy, considering that Ramirez, Grubbs, Beekman, Sears, Yanda, Alleman, and Duckworth are ALL expected to go after him and almost all (except Yanda and MAYBE Beekman) are good or better run blockers.

And when you think about, Ramirez fits the Jets the most. He is more athletic than many thought, and he's an absolute mauler at the G position. Just what we need...and we could get it with one of our low seconds.

Best DT available, if no one worthy of the #25 is there, take the best CB available.

    Why?

I'm going to ask everyone who says that we need Greg Olsen at #25.

Oh, and a one post later, you said that it would be awesome to get Justin Blalock....

Best available player from DL, OT, LB, CB. You don't take Guards in the first round unless they are clearly going to be dominant in the NFL. This is because there are a lot of players who can play Guard in the NFL at an acceptable level and you don't want to be paying 1st round money when 3rd or 4th will do.

My order of preference at 25 would be:

Lawrence Timmons - OLB (FSU) - Dropping due to 4.65 40 at the combine but he'd be good outside in the 3-4 opposite Thomas.

Justin Blalock - RT (Tex) - Only if the Jets project him as a tackle in their system. Don't need to spend tackle money for a guard nor 1st round money.

Aaron Ross - CB (Tex) - Probably the best cover corner in the draft after Leon Hall. Decent size, good speed and good fundamentals makes Ross a plug in player for a decade for the Jets.

If those 3 are gone or not appropriate and Anthony Spencer and Jarvis Moss did not drop to the 25, which they won't, then I'd think about trading down a bit at this point. No point in paying 1st round money for the best of the 2nd round talent.

    Aaron Ross
    CB | (6'0", 192, 4.47) | TEXAS

Strengths: Has fluid hips, shows a second gear when tracking the ball and can turn and run with receivers vertically. Gets good knee bend when back pedaling and shows good burst coming forward. Is tall and can compete for jump balls. Possesses very good ball skills, flashes the ability to make the big play in coverage and is a dangerous open-field runner. Shows good instincts and rarely gets caught out of position. Plays with good intensity, fills hard when he reads run and is an explosive open-field tackler that flashes the ability to knock the ball loose. Has experience returning punts, has shown big-play ability in this role and should contribute on special teams in the NFL.

Ross would give us someone who can play on the other side of dyson and become a great #2 corner. He is a vast improvement over barrett and miller. Also, his punt return ability will be an improvement over this past year because tim dwight is not what he once was.

    Adequate!!!!??? Adequate!!!???

I name a future pro bowler that could help us at safety or cornerback and you prefer adequate???

The Colts had an adequate safety in Mike Doss who they recently replaced with Bob Sanders. You don't win the Super Bowl by being satisfied with adequate.

Eric Coleman is a borderline starter who was benched for at least a couple game sthis year. Smith is a rookie and mostly an unknown quantity. As Merriweather's ideal position is probably cornerback he would be a huge upgrade over Miller / Poteat. If he did play safety, Merriweather and Rhodes would make an amazing combination.
