Does anyone know how much cap space we have left, now that we extended Cotch, Jones, and signed Coleman, Barnes, and Hamilton? Any info would be great from you cap gurus.
A lot. Cotchery will count about 1.7 million, jones about 2 million, coleman 2.2, barnes almost nothing and hamilton 800,000. If it's true we only had about 16 million to start that would leave about 9. We also had cuts that will buy back more and I don't think anybody knows Curtis Martin's new contract specifics. Before he signed it that would have bought back another 5 million at least. Even after accelerating his unamortized bonus. I'm sure when they got him to restructure last year they knew he may not make it back. It has to be cap friendly.
You're right. 2.2 million. I was using his last years salary of 440,000. I forgot he got a raise to 800,000. That and a 5 year prorated 7 million dollar bonus brings his cap number to 2.2 million.
But I was also wrong on Hamilton. He signed for 820,000 but will only count 435,000. So the bottom line is about the same. I guess the old memory bank needs a tuneup.
I also read somewhere that when Martin puts his retirement papers in there will be 1.35 mil of additional cap space. I looked for a link, but can't find it. Might have been in Cimini's blog somewhere? I did my best to guess at the remaining cap space on the second page of the blog (see sig line link) but it's a purely amatuer effort, I'm no capologist, but I figured with Martin's retirement, it should still be around 9.5 to 10 mil under.... but don't call me on the carpet for that, it's a guess.
But you have no idea if he got a roster bonus or not.. Noone really does. Also, the bonus can be prorated over 6... as he signed a 5 yr extension I believe, not a 5 yr deal (which means his existing 1 yr remaining counts too). I could be wrong about that though.
