The Jets won't receive any compensatory picks this year.
They signed more fa's for more money than fa's they lost last year.
Also, the fa's they lost didn't sign big enough contracts.

This proves that we have lower quality players on our roster then other teams

Could be but I think the scales weigh strongly the other way. In fact another poster & I had a exchange in which I said anybody we cut would NOT be picked up by another team & basically he agreed I was correct since Herm was the only one who signed a NYJ cut player from last year.

This actually goes to show that all the sky-is-falling people out there just really don't get what Tangini is doing. Draft well, sign 'em back, and add a light sprinkling of FA's, but not too much...and voila-Super Bowl Gravy

This proves nothing of the sort, Champ. Comp picks soften the blow of losing talent because you can't afford to sign them. Not getting comp picks mean you evaluate your talent and handle your money well enough to keep them.

There is much more to compensatory picks that what is in that article. It also has to do with how your players play, their offseason honors and contracts. Like they said though, the exact formula is unknown.

  14. Not true. Mawae went to Tennesee, and Sowell went to TB.

A few years back the Jets received a bunch of comp picks for Hall, Thomas, and Jordan.

    I doubt that.

You don't have to lose players of good quality to prove your team is of higher quality - say if you keep them re-signed well in advance, you won't lose them via free-agency.

Either that, or as you proposed, the team can't play in college level.

With comp pick status alone, though, you can't tell which is which.

I do believe that Eric Smith was a comp pick last year, and he's turning out pretty well.

No. It has nothing to do with what team originally drafted him. Brady was signed from Jacksonville. Besides, that was this offseason.

Any comp picks we would get for this offseason would be for the 2008 draft, and it would only happen if we lose more players than we sign from other teams.
