I don't think this will be much of anything. Unless a fullback can do it all, (block, catch, run, in that order), he's not much of anything than a glorified Tight End, who gets a running start. Barnes will not be anything terrible, nor will he be anything amazing, and that's just how it'll be. If he can stuff a guy for TJ, and also run out in the flats, grab a Pennington ball and run 5 yards, I'm happy.

What makes you think he sucks? Everytime the guy gets on the field he runs hard and low to the ground and almost always falls forward for extra tough yards. He's been a good back for us when he is healthy.
You have no clue what you're talking about......

Houston does not suck. In fact, I think he's a valuable guy to have around. Leon Washington is not an every-down back, and couldn't be if Thomas Jones got hurt. Houston is going to be a very good backup for years to come. You can't dump tough runners like that. Plus he's cheap.

    I agree.

If you had Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees, most would say Brees is the worst of the three. However, no one can say that Brees is a bad QB right now. So, I'd go ahead and say that yes, Houston's the worst, but no, Houston isn't 'bad' at all.

    Nice call.

Why the hell would someone say he sucks?

Why do people say half the things they say? They talk without enough information...which is just laziness given the internet era we all live in.

Exactly, and it happens here alot. Anyone that has watched Cedric the past 2 years knows he does not suck.

It's fine to say that Houston doesn't suck, but it's also perfectly acceptable to say that he's just... really, really, really, really not good.

Well, compared to a guy like Barlow, I'm happy to have him by #3.

Not that good? Ok? Go watch film of Cedric from the end of 05, and watch film from the games against the Colts, Packers, and Bears last year. Every time this guy gets a chance he makes the most of it. Im not sure why people just love to bash Cedric on this site.

Are people really upset about signing a fullback? First off, he's started in several places, and just because someone has been on many teams doesnt mean he is bad- parcells has let guys go before who might be good- it doesnt make Barnes bad just because bill or the phins or someone didnt want to resign him for whatever reason. We got rid of Coles once. We got rid of Hugh Douglas once. We got rid of tons of guys who were good in other places. And most importantly, he gives us a cheap body to put out there in front of TJ to make some holes. When have you ever seen a team that was a fullback away from success? He'll be a nice role player and really, at his position, wouldnt be anything more even if he were great

I blame fantasy football. Obviously if the guy has no fantasy worth, then he must be totally worthless to have on a team roster.

I agree, as long as he's willing to put his body out there. Which is what I keep reading, I think he's going to be fine.

I personally wouldn't count myself as upset, but this would be like...finding a replacement backup placeholder. It's nothing exciting, it's nothing amazing, and we let Askew go (who I thought did a fair job) to take on this guy who is really not much of anything interesting - his major, defining trait being his character and heart on the field I think.

I did watch him. He is the perfect example of a guy who is an average backup. He's popular because he's always fighting for extra yards right to the whistle... but he has poor pure running skills. Any guy who fights and gets extra yards like he does has no excuse to average under 4 yards a carry, unless he's just not that good overall.
