The reason why I posted this is because Eric Smith is one of the more intriguing guys on the roster. He will certainly be competing with Erik Coleman for the starting position. I love his toughness and the way he hits. I noticed that he had great deceptive football speed. In other words, whenever it looked like he was out of position he still ended up making the play. During training camp I will focus a lot of my time reading on how he is doing. To me one of the best battles we have will be Eric Smith vs. Erik Coleman
I'll admit at first I was a little confused with the pick, but he has played much better than I expected so far. Not sure that he will beat Coleman, but their will be good competition. Also, what about Rashad Washington? Not sure if Washington is more of a FS or SS, he has blitzed a little bit. But I would like to see him in the mix if possible as well.
He's definetely a better all around player then Coleman. He's a smart guy who is always around the ball and a very good tackler. Rhodes and Smith will be playing next to each other for a long time.
seems like he gives everything he has everytime he is out there...takes nothing for granted i like that a lot about him
IMHO, I don't have any doubts that Eric Smith will be the starting SS for the Jets next year. He will beat out Coleman in TC/Preseason. He made alot of plays as a backup safety and seems to be a better tackler than Coleman. Smith and Rhodes are a SWEET tandem of young safety's. I compare Smith to Rodney Harrison.
Assuming that's the case, agreed. I was up in arms when they made the pick but the kid's been solid. In fact, he's been everything thus far that the old FO thought that Jon McGraw was going to be.
Yea i meant to say why they drafted him considering we didnt need a Safety during draft day and plus he was someone i didnt know. But after seeing him play this season, i now understand why the jets drafted him.
