Anthony (Brooklyn NY): Mel, Can you comment on the Thomas Jones trade from a Jets point of view? Who will Ganggreen be targeting in Round 1?

Mel Kiper: (1:14 PM ET ) I think in terms of the Jets, keep in mind where they're picking. They're later in the first round. I didn't have them picking a RB in the projection a month ago. There is no RB for them to take. That's why the Jones trade was so valuable for the Jets, because there won't be a RB there for them to take. I think you can get a RB in rounds 2, 3, 4 that can give you what Jones can. Brandon Jackson from Nebraska, Antonio Pittman has a lot of talent. There are some good RBs that will be around in the late Day 1, early Day 2. The Jets still need a WR, CB or a 3-4 DE.

i wouldnt be against it if Ross, Revis, and Houston are all gone.

Meachem has size, speed, and amazing hands. Coles cant play forever. who else do we have? Smith? (still learning the position) McCareins (gone) Dwight(ok.......seriously?)

only the first 3 names can be taken seriously and one of them will take just as long if not longer to develop than a WR we draft this yr.

might as well draft one of our WR's of the future now.

We will need one soon coach k I agree. But I dont want to see him picked in the first round. I dont ever want to see Wr's in the first round. Especially this year, I think we need line help, both sides

    Word!

I don't see WR as a major need. DT before WR.

I agree, If Meachem is available which at this point I don't think he will be, I wouldn't hesitate to take him. Like you said Coles is towards the twilight of his career & other than Cotchery there is nothing else besides Smith who brings versatility but can't b e counted on yet. I love the idea of a WR in the first this year, it very well could be the BPA by the time the Jets pick. The way the draft is shaping up it is looking like the best value at the 25th spot will either be at WR or CB. Other than Houston & Hall, I'm really not that crazy about the other Cbs who probably will be available..

Mel Kiper represents all that puts this nation's culture beyond redemption (I'm not being sarcastic or joking about that comment, he seriously is the single most useless human being alive, a man who's job is only to analyze the nfl draft? come on). that being said I think he's 2 for 3 on that post, DE and CB are going to be needs and I think we're in a position to nab Chris Houston or another elite CB, or hopefully even Carriker.

I'm with you. DT or NT... but it doesn't necessarily have to come thru the draft.

i agree completely with everything this is why ive been talking WR in a few draft threads. i believe when were sitting at 25 any DL pick will be a reach. maybe anthony spencer if people are looking for an OLB.

but i believe BPA will definitely be CB or WR. with the RB combo we now have adding a WR would only help penny even more. fuck tim dwight. lol

Unless we move up to get an elite NT like Branch I would only want CB, or WR at 25. Houston, Revis, Meachem, or Jarret?

Mel is right. The over rating of Coles and Cothcery on this board defies belief.

Both are Good players, neither scares a defense Deep.

Hence the constant 8 in the box.

Plus, Coles aint getting any younger. (and lets not bring up the phantom 4.1 40 back in his days as a FRESHMAN at FSU).

Take best player available. If it's a WR, so be it. Drafting for need may be good for the short term, but we're building for the long term. Taking the best player available, regardless of need, is how you build a championship caliber program for the long term.

We should package our 1, and 2 remaining twos to get up around 11, and take Meachem.

Coles has been banged up for awhile, hes not going to bounce back quickly from big hits this year. Cotchery is money, but is a #1? McCariens is inconsistent, Smith isn't a true WR, Tim Dwight a #3 receiver at best; taking a WR in round 1 makes sense to me because there is going to be some quality ones there at #25

oh dude, dont get me wrong. I dont think cotch and coles are the best tandem in the league by any stretch. Im just sayin this year, this draft, I dont want to see any first round WR selection. And I also think Chads arm has something to do with the 8 in the box

come on. You dont really think we should give up our whole draft for a WR do you. WR's can be had well into the 4th and 5th rounds of drafts every year....
