See TGG.com main page for details, but Cotch is a Jet through 2012.

Wow! 4.8 million base for 2007. With the signing bonus proration added in he'll count 6 million against the 2007 cap. years 2-5 are all around 3 million or under in cap hit so the FO really wants this guy long term. Totally the opposite of a back-loaded deal.

I sort of like the move, seeing as we had the cap space this year, but the downside is with the Thomas and Coleman signings, Colombo looks like a long shot. We might be able to squeeze him in, and Tanny's the guy to do it, but we're pretty much done getting guys until the draft.

Most importantly, Cotch is officially with us long term. At least I'm not going to have to worry about buying a new jersey any time soon. :)

    You have a link?

If you look at the contracts that players are getting now in free agency, Cotchery is worth every penny. This guy plays his ass off and does everything, including being a terrific blocker.

It's the main story on this website. Do you really need a link to find it?

    I believe its 800,000ish in 07, and 4.8 million in 2008...........

And I did realize that the big hit is 2008 not 2007, so we in fact do still have room to sign somebody else.

i find it interesting that when a player signs a lower contract to be with a team he wants to be with, its assumed he got fleeced. similar reactions happened when the mets signed reyes and wright last year for less than they'd likely get as free agents. i'm just happy cotchery clearly wants to be here, and they were able to work it out...
