I like the signing weather he's a starter or not, but it looks like he can certainly be better than Kimo was last year. He had 30 tackles, and 4 sacks as a guy who shared time last year, and his size fits the DE spot well. Those numbers are pretty good for a spot that isn't really judged by stats. I'm happy, he's still pretty young, and on his way up- he's not going to be cut in a year or two like some past bargain signings. Let me hear what you guys think of him being a starter-- meanwhile, it's youtube for me.
He can be a pretty decent down lineman pass rusher...wanna see him improve his run-stuffing game though. If it was for low money, I'll take him. Depth at the DE positon is something we did not really have last year (Dave Ball, enough said)
Absolutely. There is no way I see Kimo Von Pancaked start another year. IMO El Duo Tangini were thinking along the same lines. It was quite embarrassing how bad he played last year. Now we have a Younger, Agressive 3-4 DE instead of a DE who keeps a bottle of Log Cabin syrup in his back pocket.
Lets put it this way, if the Jets draft a DE and the rookie is better its one thing, but if he can't beat Kimo out on the depth chart he shouldn't have been picked up to begin with.
Oh, I have confidence that he will beat out Kimo-Therapy, but I wonder if they think we're good enough at DE to not address it in the draft. Probably not I'm guessing.
Kimo did not play as expected last year, but they did keep him around. IMO it's because he is a veteran and probably provides good leadership. That being said it is a competition, and I believe the Jets will definitely add another player or two along the line to make it more of a competition. Honestly I still would like to see Robertson try DE, because to me that is the biggest question along the defensive line, our NT position. To me, that is a bigger need then DE. Coleman adds at the very least good depth and competition. But I believe the Jets next focus on defense should be NT and then deciding what to do with the LB corps. We definitely need more of a pass rush. Hopefully Coleman can provide that.
Colemans was in DLine rotation for the Cowboys, he only comes in at 3rd down 4-man front, so I'm no so sure he will start.
i really think he'll start. I believe he has a lot of potential. He has great athletic ability but simply does not have the skill set to be a good to very good D-Lineman. But i think that mangini will be able to improve his skill set just as he has the other players on defense. Anything is better than Kimo-von FatF**k
He's an athlete, unlike Mt. Kimo. If he betters his technique and becomes consistent he could definitely be on the other side of Ellis.
as far as stature he makes a perfect bookend for shaun ellis there almost exactly the same shaun ellis is only a mere ten pounds lighter. but id be all for it im always about a change so if he helps out then why not
I really dont think that we are going after a nose tackle this off-season. This is not saying that we could not improve at this position, but D-Train is not the worst nt out there. He was not the reason that our rush defense was horrible last year.
