as leon washington proved last year . it isnt always the player sometimes its the system and the program.
Olsen's stats are low because he never had a QB throwing to him. His blocking needs some work, but he's a big target and an explosive receiver. Whether we can be in the position to draft him or not depends on the moves to come in the next month, but if he's there, he'll certainly improve this offense.
No more TE's on the first round.... EVER! We need a CB since the pass rush hasn't been upgraded. With Dyson hurt, and Barrett nursing a hernia, Brady picked our corners apart in the playoffs. Houston is a no brainer if he falls, otherwise Ross. No more freakin TE's!
He was rated third overall on ESPN's list of 100 High School players. He totaled 73 career catches for 1,474 yards, a 20.2 yards per catch average and a school-record 27 touchdowns. He never had the consistent QB play in college and never had a great Miami team to show off his skills on. Put him in the NFL with a real system around him, and he becomes a dominant force.
You cannot go with that attitude. The Jets should just forfeit all their draft picks because we've had a big bust at every position in our history.
I think you either have to go CB, G, or OLB with the #25. Those are all much bigger needs and there are plenty of players who will be worth that pick from those positions who fall there (CB-Aaron Ross, Darrelle Revis, maybe Chris Houston; G-Justin Blaylock; OLB-Quentin Moses, Charles Johnson, Anthony Spencer, maybe Jarvis Moss). If any of the above players are there and we take Olsen, I'll be pretty pissed because Olsen's nowhere near what Vernon Davis was last year, and he's the only type of TE that I'd take a flyer on at this point.
First and foremost, I would like to see us taking one of the CB's with our first pick. (If Darrelle Revis, Leon Hall, Chris Houston or Aaron Ross are there, which 1 or 2 of them probably will be). If they are off the board, I would want to see a OG (Blalock or Ben Grubbs). If they are ALL off the board, I would be fine with Olsen. I have a feeling though that one of those 6 players, at least, will be there though.
I think we are gonna try to trade up for Moss, that is just the feeling I have. I'm not totally opposed to taking Olsen depending on who else is available. If we want offensive weapons with the first round I would rather take a WR but if the WR they like is gone & they like Olsen than sure why not..
The so called "crappy logic" was explained. 40 catches a 12 yd avg and 1 TD. Becht was known as YAC, yard after catch sucked. Against one of their huge rivals FSU, Olsen had 2 catches for 8 yards. In 3 years at the U he hasnt produced after all his hype after high school, hes 252 lbs and 6'5. Not a great blocker, and his receiving numbers are nothing great. WHY is he considered first round material, and if you say POTENTIAL, i will stab myself.
Oh yes I can. Tony Gonzalez was a solid pick in the first as was Watson, but Sharp was a late round pick. Gates was no first rounder. Shockey is over rated, Winslow is a bust, Vernon Davis, the supposed uber-stud of TE's last year hasn't done anything yet. We've drafted what, 4 TE's in the first round over the past 15 years? Mitchell, Brady, Becht.... enough already. Is this kid better than Heath Miller? Miller can block better, and is a better reciever too. I want a CB in the first, so your sarcastic remark regarding giving away all the draft picks is juvenile. And who are you to tell me what attitude I should have? Have a nice day.
Great point, plus, as a 'Canes fan I was completely disappointed in him last year. I almost fell off my couch when I saw that he declared early. I wondered based on what. No thanks. Not when we have a player like Baker that has only scratched the surface of what he could become in Shotty's offense.
No need for Olsen with Baker as our TE....Olsen reminds me of Shockey besides the Miami TE connection. Strict offensive TE who half asses it sometimes on the field and wants his touches. Hes explosive yes but hes not what we need on this team IMO.
