I don't know. I think it depends on the tree. If we got like a California Redwood, I'd be pretty damn excited.

eh. even nobody would be an upgrade over kimo. the guy got pushed back all the time and the o-linemen actually used him to shield off our linebackers. so he was basically another body our linebackers had to deal with. :breakdance:

The New York Jets announced today the signing of defensive end Kenyon Coleman to a contract. The announcement was made by Jets? General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

?Kenyon Coleman is a physical defensive lineman and we like his size and strength up front,? Tannenbaum said. ?He has experience playing the 3-4 defense and we?re looking forward to having him be a part of our organization.?

Coleman, going into his sixth season in the NFL, played in all 16 games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2006, registering four sacks and batting down two passes while recording 31 tackles.
"Kenyon Coleman is a smart, tough and dedicated football player who has proven to be a valuable contributor to a similar defensive system,? said Head Coach Eric Mangini. ?His experience and his leadership will add to the depth of our team. Kenyon will have an opportunity to compete for a starting position and contribute to the team, and I look forward to him being a part of the New York Jets."

Coleman, originally a fifth-round draft selection (147th overall) of the Oakland Raiders in the 2002 draft out of UCLA, played four seasons for the Cowboys after spending his rookie season with the Raiders.

?I?m excited to be a part of the New York Jets organization,? Coleman said. ?I am looking forward to the opportunity to play for Coach Mangini and help the team in any way I can.?

Nice. Lets get him in the gym, teach him some proper technique, and see where that takes him.

Kenyon Coleman is a Mangini player. Good to hear.

I like the signing. He' going to have to compete for a starting position, and with experience in the 3-4, I think he has a shot at it. He brings experience of the 3-4 to the table for those who may not be familiar with it. I know he's a Lineman, but we all know how big of a role they play.

Good pickup. He will compete for the starting job and the rotation will be improved. I wonder how the fool who claimed it'd be a long season two days ago feels now. Patience is a virtue!

Honestly, we didn't need a starter at either DE spot. I am 90% positive we will have a legit starting 3-4 NT by the end of the first day of the draft, whether by signing or the draft. The depth chart should look like this.

    LDE - Robertson, Kimo
    NT - New Guy, Pouha
    RDE - Ellis, Coleman

That's going to be a solid rotation.

Who are you gonna find that can come in at start ay NT. Not alot of talent available at that position.

Firstly, the more depth on the line we can get the better. Secondly, I wish I shared the same confidence about the NT situation as you. We've lacked a real NT ever since Ferg peaced and 34NTs are extremely hard to find. I'm willing to go NT round 1 if necessary, because it is the most important position on this defense.

Either we trade for a really good young vet or draft one on day one.

As it stands now I think Drob stays in the middle. Not to mention the fact that they released Kimo already....didn't they?

Noone will trade a really good young veteran nose tackle in today's NFL. I can guarantee you that.

Hmmm by that logic Thomas Jones would be garbage because the Bears dumped him for Cedric Benson right? How about Pete Kendall? Eric Barton? Andre Dyson? These guys were all cut by other teams and they seem to have not been garbage. Would you rather be the Fish and overspend for Joey Porter because you know his name?

As far as the draft, what players (if any) have the ability to come in and start right away at NT? Branch will get taken early, how big is the drop-off after that?

Jesus, this is awesome. I am so pumped it's incredible. We've still got all out draft picks basically intact and we're going balls to the wall into the draft with all our ammunition.

I can't wait for TC to open up, I'll be at damn-near every one of them this year. This is awesome.

I am really happy with this signing. Again, just a depth move, but I really like it. Keep moving the guys on and off the field with guys that can still make plays
