As Clayton pointed out today on ESPN, based on draft vaule / difference between the two 2nd rounders, the Jets essentially gave up a low 2nd / high 3rd for Jones.

It was a fair deal for both teams.

    negative negative negative???

Keep frowning, and I'll smile for you and all Jet fans. Jones is the kind of all-purpose back who we will treasure. Quick, powerful inside, great receiver...

Apparently the Jets have reached a contract agreement with 12 mil in gaurantees. This according to Cannizaro on NFL radio..

I don't know how anyone could be frowning over this deal. I was just listening to the opening drive on NFL Radio and they were mocking the Bears. This is as one sided as a trade gets.

Jones is exactly what we need, a tough vet who can split carries with Leon. Who cares if he hasn't had a bunch of 1000 yard seasons? He is not being called upon to be the workhorse ala Curtis. And we will still be in position to get good value in the draft with 4 first day picks. Or would you rather we drafted another rookie RB and have no experience in the backfield? Or even worse, go with Houston again...

This deal comes down to what we actually pay for Jones.

If we end up signing Jones for more money then we could have signed an equally as good back who was an unrestricted FA, why would this be a good trade?

The Bears basically made a decission to go with Benson and they can't afford to have two high paid RB on the team. If we end up paying Jones top money what does this do to Washington who I believe might have more upside and be better than Jones? Did we just drop down in the draft and lock ourselves into a high priced JAG? Or did we add a reasonably priced RB who will be part of RB by committe?

It sounds like he is getting a similar deal to the one Henry got yesterday. Jones was by far the best RB available..

If he gets the same deal as Henry I have a feeling come draft day when Chicago is on the board with our No. 2 pick this deal is not going to look quit as good. Jones is in no way better than Henry.

Even if we only get 2 decent years out of him, we gave up practically nothing. We now have a starting RB for 2007 and are not pressed to draft a RB. This is very similar to the Patriots trade for Dillon. Get a stable RB, then bring in a high round RB in a year or two.

Just when my confidence in Tangini was SLIGHTLY wavering, this comes out the blue. How can you not love this front office?!?!

IMO Jones is much better than Henry, not to mention that Henry is one strike away from being suspended for a year..

I disagree. Henry is not the player Jones is. I wouldn't want someone on our team who is one F up from being gone for a year. This was a much better deal.

The point is we didn't give up nothing for him, he is going to be paid like a top NFL back when he may well be No. 2 on our depth chart by the end of training camp.

According to Cannizaro, the Jets had a 24 hour window to complete a deal with Jones, which is pretty much completed.

It is pretty obvious that the CS & FO didn't see Leon as an everydown feature RB. Jones will be the feature back & Leon will get his touches..

The best part about this trade in my opinion, is how the Jets also got back another second round pick, so in essence they get Thomas JOnes for moving down in the draft.

"we are now going into to camp knowing who is our #1 QB and #1 RB, we are already light years ahead of last years team at this time."

Shouldn't that be enough for those idiots who are complaining? Last year we had absolutely nothing and Mangini led us to the playoffs. In ONE year we now have a definate starter at RB and QB with more free agency and the draft ahead of us. People thought the Jets were 2-3 years away from making the playoffs if everything went almost perfect, and here we are, sitting pretty. Dont Complain.
