I will leave it up to Mangini's judgement, but homeboy was benched at the end of last season for the Pats. He'd be good depth, but I don't see him as a starter (unless he beat someone out in camp.)
I wouldn't mind him starting opposite Bryan Thomas at all...he seemed like a pretty decent pass rusher so we could always use a guy like him. I would really like Banta and Daniel Graham from the Pats.
Eh, I'll pass... No more New England "trash" for me... My choices for OLBs go Adalius Thomas, followed by a draft pick (rounds 1-3).
New England has no depth at LB. Banta-Cain is young, and has experience in their system. If he was any good, they'd be pulling out all the stops to re-sign him. I'll pass. He's barely better than Chatham.
Mangini knows what Banta-Cain is worth. He'll sign him if he's worth the trouble. The Jets certainly could use another linebacker. You need about 6 good ones to play a 3-4.
Why dont we just completely steal away all the depth guys from the patsies, it seems to be a big trend lately.
Because the depth guys on the Patriots are only really good when the starter guys on the Patriots are in front of them on the depth chart. Signing players 23 to 45 on the Patriots roster wouldn't gain the Jets a single game in the standings, although it might cost the Patriots a game or two.
Right. Picking up every player just shy of cracking the Patriot starting lineup makes little sense, in my mind.
His ability is light years beyond Chatham?s. Not even close. Chatham was a special teams player for the Pats
Not a bad point. I still have a real visceral reaction against signing all Patriots' cast-offs, but this is exactly the sort of strategy that makes me think twice.
I would not want this guy on our roster, he sounds more like a Star Wars character than a guy that should be a LB on this team. Now starting at LB for the Jets Tully Banta-Cain, right next to Boba Fett and Greedo.
Upon review of the N.E. playoff games....This guy was there best pass rusher & seems to be quite a player. He's a better OLB than anybody the Jets' have now. So...This would definitely upgrade the team. Sign him up quick...
You will be even more mad when you think about how Sf was offering Thomas 9 million plus per year, after you read this. For a team with 29 million in space, and this free agent market, this was a very good deal. - SI.com One guy might have been underpaid in Lunatic 2007 Market Dollars: Adalius Thomas. He signed with New England for five years and $35.00 million. The breakdown, according to Management Council documents obtained Sunday night: ? Signing bonus: $12 million in 2007. ? Option bonus: $8 million payable in 2008, applied for cap reasons in equal $2 million increments in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. ? Salaries: $900,000 in '07, $900,000 in '08, $1.9 million in '09, $4.9 million in '10 and $5.9 million in '11. ? Workout bonuses: $107,000 annually if he participates in the Patriots' offseason workout program in Foxboro. ? Cap numbers: In succession, beginning this year, $3.4 million, $5.4 million, $6.4 million, $9.4 million, $10.4 million. I say "might have been underpaid" because there is always a danger that a unique, great player in one system might not translate to that kind of player in another system. But I'll go on record saying this is a tremendous signing -- for both sides, not just the Patriots. Thomas gets what he wants, staying in the Eastern Time Zone (he did not want to move to California), playing with an annual contender, working under a coach who obviously is an imaginative defensive strategist and playing for a team that isn't a sideshow. The Patriots get what they want, signing a versatile 29-year-old linebacker (mostly) to buttress a rapidly aging unit, adding a perfect locker-room influence, and leaving
