It seems Chris Houston and Darelle Revis may have passed him as the top CB in the draft. If he (or Revis even) falls to pick #25, do you draft him or do you get a position ia bit more important and wait for a CB later in the draft?
If we don't sign a free agent CB, which I doubt since this free agent crop of CBs is very thing, then CB might be my top choice at #25. If any of these guys are here, I'd take: - Leon Hall, Michigan- Ran well and should stay in the Top 15. - Darrelle Revis, Pitt- Didn't workout and did nothing to help his stock. Could be there at #25 IMO - Aaron Ross- Had a great senior season. Should be around - Chris Houston- Phenomenal workouts. Hopefully will be there at #25. I would be very content with any of the 4, preferably the first 3 listed. Otherwise there are guys like Tanard Jackson Syracuse, Daymeion Hughes California and Marcus McCaulley Fresno St that we can get with one of our 2nd round picks.
Agreed, the best reciever taken last year was the last one. Steve Smith was the 12th pick etc etc Jones Drew was a beast this year, last year he was "to small".
I wouldn't go anywhere near a cornerback in the first two rounds. We need lineman on both sides of the ball. We can draft a cornerback mid rounds and develop him.
Have you seen the production from the #2 CB spot? CB is a top need if we don't sign Nick Harper. We can't get a developmental CB in the mid rounds and call our secondary fixed.
I really don't care about fixing the secondary. Once the lines are in place we can use high picks on cornerbacks. When you have no nose tackle and no right end, and you run a 3-4 the lineman are always going to be the priority. We also need to replace 2 or 3 offensive lineman in the next two years. Mangini plays more of a system with his secondary then just straight up man to man. He needs system players who are smart, can tackle and can develop into solid players. He doesn't need a cornerback that projects in the first round. How many cornerbacks have the Patriots taken in the first round? How many defensive lineman have they taken in the first round? I don't love our options at the second cornerback spot but it's really not a position I worry about. If we are able to build up the defensive line so that we can consistently get pressure on a qb without having to rush more then 4 or 5 players our secondary would be in good shape. I expect the front office to draft at least one defensive lineman early and then I expect them to take a cornerback in the mid rounds that Mangini can develop into a starter over time. The bottom line is that if you can get pressure any secondary can look good and if you don't get any pressure any secondary can look bad. So focus on the trenches and when you can win that war then you have the luxury of taking skill type players early in the draft and in free agency.
