Jets | Jets to bring in veteran QB
    Sun, 4 Mar 2007 11:38:01 -0800

Tom Rock, of Newsday, reports the New York Jets will probably bring in a veteran QB who can act as a mentor and push QB Kellen Clemens from the No. 3 spot. Unrestricted free-agent QB Vinny Testaverde (Patriots) is one possibility.

Too bad jetsrock isn't here to comment......

It would be pretty funny if the Jets first signing of Free Agency was Vinny. :)

Me neither. Why not bring him in to mentor Kellen? Good idea IMO. Like him or hate him, he is a good teacher.

I'd rather have the homeless man washing windows outside the lincoln tunnel to tutor Kellen than Vinny T.

Geez he would be an upgrade over Ramsey. PF4Jets is correct about his mentorship.

Does it really matter who our 3rd. string QB is? If the 3rd. string QB has to play any meaningful time we are screwed anyhow.

This pretty much sums up my sentiments on bringing back Vinnie. Vinnie comin' as an experienced tecacher is OK by me.

Why would you guys want a Qb who has never been known for his brains mentoring our young QB?

I'd bring in Vinny. Let him show off his stuff, then just tell Clemens to do the opposite.

Personally, I don?t think Vinny is with best formula to push QB Kellen Clemens?I would think competing/getting mentored by one of the smartest QB (Chad P.) in the NFL would be the winning formula to push Kellen C.

    Peace out, L3

Vinnie is done. Send him to KC with Herm. Geez, I would lose all faith in Tangini if they let Vinnie through the gate.

The argument that Vinnie is better than Ramsey is probably true, but then again, Pee Wee Herman is better than Patrick Ramsey (God, why did we spend that draft pick to bring him in here in the first place?)

Be that as it may, I'd rather have Chad mentoring Clemens than Vinnie. Having Vinnie takes up a roster spot. No one ever considers that when they say things like, "Well, I wouldn't mind having him." Think of that spot he's occupying as one less roster spot you have to activate a real contributor to ST's or other backup depth positions.

I would be fine w/ Vinny as kellen will be the #2 BUT the last 2 years Vinny has been w/ us Chad has gotten hurt and we've stunk. Vinny was here in '03 and we went 6-10, he leaves and we go 10-6 in '04, he comes back in '05 and we are 4-12, he leaves in '06 and we go 10-6. I don't like that trend.

I'd rather just use brad smith as the 3rd string QB. But if the jets really want a vet, sure why not, sign vinny.
