Ok I did the defragment and it was about 1 hour and 15 mins, after the 2nd time as well. I did step 6 for a little bit but had to exit because I had to leave...Now what steps are to be done weekly? I know the defragging is monthly you said? Thanks again and the computer is going a lot faster.
gd, Im blown away by this thread...it deserves a sticky. It not only helped my computer...but my kids computer. I cant believe all the things the registery cleaner found on my boys computer. Great great job
Hey Jay! I did all the steps too, my computer is running much better. Then shared with my Mom and sister. Thanks Dude.
Glad I could be of some help  If you guys have any questions on anything toss me a PM or bump this thread up. I will keep the first post updated if I can think of anything else that would make your computer better.
PF...or as some might just call her..."boss". I know...my computer is just running much better. My boys thought I bought them a new one...Im fooling the youngest (8) but the older one (10) wants to see the receipt.
I was running the free AOL protection suite, but it was a resource hog. So far, running these apps with the widows firewall is much faster. CC deleted a massive amount of stuff, but no matter how many times I run it, it keeps finding the same 10 registry items. They won't go away.
and a sticky to boot. good move. I have seen other ideas thrown around this board..this one is so simple..and easy. Again, thanks GD.
http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html?tag=lst-0-1 I was going to add this to one of the steps but this program could be dangerous to your machine if you don't know what you are doing. Download and run this, don't click "fix" yet. Post the log here and I will let ya know what to get rid of. EDIT*** anyone else feel they still have a problem and dont know what to do... do the same!
green dude for president!! I my old PC is feeling much better. I was considering increasing the physical RAM in it just this past President's week during the sales. But you have breathed new lifee into it. Where should I send my donations to your fund raiser??
CC was the best thing of it all...I also deleted some programs that I just never used and didn't know what they were, lots of stuff I didn't need...
Here's a question. What's all the buzz over Mozilla? I've heard different accounts from different people, some say it makes your net go faster, some say it makes your net safer, some say both. Which is it? Should I bother DLing it? I remember last time I DLed it, it f-ed up my AIM. Plus, if I were to DL it, I would have to re-do my favorites and all that jazz. And I feel fine with IE anyways.

i installed vista transformation pack on the xp computer. bought the hp slimline 7700n with vista premium. i use the same stuff on both: firefox advanced windows care auslogics disc defrag spyware blaster avast anti-virus spybot ad-aware no problems so far...with both machines (hp) , you have to get rid of a lot of crap (aol, norton, etc) when you first buy them.
those are the ones I would get rid of... read them because im not sure if you need the fileplanet or gamespy files for anything you might have to reset your homepage after you do this
Thanks for the tips there, TGD. One thing though...I've ran the defrag thingie multiple times now, but it doesn't seem to do anything. The amount of fragmented files pretty much stays the same. http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/2135/untitled1lm4.jpg Any idea how to fix that, or is my PC screwed beyond help?
Did you press the "Defragment" button? Analyzing only sees what the possibilities are, you have to click "Defragment" to actually defrag the drive.
