Tanny has a history of getting things done early and this is a good example. By doing so, he sets up his "portfolio," knows where he is in terms of dollars, and is then able to make the most optimal moves he needs to make from there. I really love this FO and coaching staff.
It sets some good standards I think for the organization. Cotchery played hard every week didnt start clamoring for a new contract and complain and he got his long term deal. Sets a good example and furthers the whole "tangini" guy attitude around here
With impact FA few and far between the next few seasons, teams need to re-sign their own players when they have the opportunity. A FA WR of Cotchery's caliber would, most likely, cost more money than extending a current player.
Most definitely. The more matters that are not left in the dark, the better it is since you get a better idea of your budget and what you can target and for what price. I'm glad we have Cotchery locked up. I await the info on number of years.
There aren't contracts, they're actually Koz's tax forms, bank statements, portfolio statements, 1099's and 1040's for 2006. Get your ass over to your accountant pronto, Koz!
This is huge because now the Jets can focus whole heartedly on Free Agency. Haven't heard anything about Rhodes getting a new deal so I guess that will come next offseason. Great job...im glad Cotch will be sticking around. Coles and Cotch are great WR now we just need Brad Smith to step up and make big plays.
Knowing he will be here for a while, I am definitely going to get a Cotchery jersey. I'm glad the Jets got this done early in the off-season, and didn't hold it off.
