He is gonna be unemployed for a long time if he only will sign with a team that will play him at RB..
Standout on special teams? Did I miss something? I like how he's boasting about that 4.4 time, trying to entice some suitors, that it was done "last offseason." Was his mother holding the stopwatch as she clocked him behind their garage? My money says that he's out of the league in less than 3 years.
Man after reading this I really sympathized with the guy. Why didnt they just give him a shot? why? WHY i ask you, oh god foresaken front office.
He'll be in the league for awhile because he does play special teams. IF he refuses to play FB ever again, he'll be out this year.
I agree, he sholuld have gotten a shot. Actually, I was always surpised by his lack of utilization as an FB. I think he could similar things to Richie Anderson. Hopefully he gets his shot. It always peeves me when guys leave here who never really got a shot. That happens less now that herm is gone, but I guess it is just sometimes the nature of football. I wish the guy the best of luck.
He did throw a mean block on Herm when he was going after that RB coach on the sideline during the SD playoff game in '04.
ummm as crazy as it would sould we should of gave him a shot at least cuz with us wanting to draft a running back thats big and could take a beating. now we go in the draft looking to draft maybe a tony hunt or michael bush to me there about the same as far as weight goes and i personally think he might be faster then both of them. so why not draft from withing it would of saved us a ton of money we could of spent in other directions. right now we are down 2 running backs just say we got michael turner and bj was the other back. then draft a solid pure fullback someone who only wants to block. we would be solid with leon houston bj and michael. and with the production of blaylock and barlow im 100% sure he would of had more yards then them.
you guys hate all you want but I always liked him. he was a great runner and reciever and they never used him. they thought he was lorenzo neal or some shit. and then he puts on 10 lbs and they ask him to take it down for the passing game and still dont use him. ionno he was great in college and i think if they wouldve ran him more or even actually threw to him he couldve been of use. i dunno about him being a full time RB but in all reality he was very good at running say what you like. oh well, they let him do what he wanted. i think both parties handled this wrong though.
Extremely difficult post to read, but you may have a point here. The amount of determination this guy has exhibited over the years at trying to convince the CS that he can be a RB, you've got to, at the very least, give him an "A" for effort. Now I'm almost pissed at the CS for not having at least considered him in the rotation of "RBBC," because if we had done that, we'd at least know what we have by now. Instead, we may have limited our options, because we now have to go after a pure RB before TC. We don't have the luxury of trying him in TC and then getting someone else if it doesn't work. But maybe it's not too late to just throw him in the mix next year with Houston and whatever rook pops up in the draft. I kinda like that idea, Tanknyc. Have you ever considered using a little punctuation and perhaps some capital letters though? It'd sure make reading your posts easier.
indeed he did and speaking of special teams stand out, jerald sowell is the jets all-time leader in special teams tackles
Funny thing is....This guy Askew is right. The few times he carried ball for the Jets', he was explosive; as long as he runs between the tackles. But buddy....this guy runs like a bull. Askew & Houston as the 2 back backfield, gives any team a solid ground game....IMO.
I understand and respect his wanting to keep the dream alive, but I'm not buying it that he never got his chance. If he was really any good, the coaching staff would've seen it and gotten him the touches.
Ok....Who remembers this....Last game of '05' season...Jets' have a backfield of Askew & Houston...And there churning out 1st down after 1st down. This Askew is a load to bring down....Go figure. :drunk:
I have never heard of Askew showing any interest at HB, and the way I read it I dont believe he did show any interest to the CS. It is a very respectable way to go about his bussiness with The Jets. He never complained, and was willing to perform whatever role was needed to help his team out the best way he knew how. If Askew did not play FB then we would have a FB problem. So what is he too do? It is a very interesting article none the less.
