The final numbers are the final numbers. Rex Grossman had more dominant games, but he also had more games where he gave his team no chance to win at all. Chad was more consistently in the middle between great and bad. I don't see how one is better than the other. Grossman also didn't have the pressure on him as much. He played as bad as a QB could play in the Cardinals and Vikings games, yet they won. If Chad played that bad, even against 2 terrible teams like them, we lose by 30. And no doubt we had a very weak schedule, but a lot of the weak teams we played, like the Bills and Dolphins twice, and the Raiders were still good defenses, especially against the pass. Grossman got 6 games against the Packers, Vikings, and Lions who have terrible defenses against the pass. Chad was not awful in the playoff game and he wasn't even close to the prime reason we lost. He wasn't great, but not awful either. And he played better than Grossman did in any of his playoff games, except for possibly the Seattle game, and that was close. But Chad produced more against a much better defense. I think the Bears are a significantly better team with Chad instead of Grossman. They aren't better than the Colts with him, but I think they would have had a much better shot at beating them in the Superbowl.
Your the 2nd or 3rd person to say this and I still want to know where your getting it from. Because we think Chad is a good QB who can win us a superbowl than we'd be mad if someone else won us one? I could say that you would be mad if we won a superbowl next year with Chad and it would make just as much sense. At least I, and others have said if Clemens proves he's the better QB, than he should start. Some of the Chad bashers have said they don't care who the QB is, as long as it isn't Chad.
I'd rather see Clemens develop slowly behind Chad for two or even three seasons before taking the reins over. Chad's been around for awhile, and I think that he gives the jets the best change to win now, just like he did last season. Of course, I don't really think they have a chance to make it much further than they did this season due to the teams limitations.
I'd like to see Chad remain the QB until Mangini decides it's Clemens' time. ...hey, isn't that reality?
Damn right. There's no point in forcing it one way or the other. The other day I was reviewing the last preseason game to get a look at Clemens and Brad Smith. I do see a better arm and quicker release in Clemens. But Chad is in no way the weakest arm on the Jets: Smith makes Chad look like Billy Joe Tolliver.
The only way I see Chad getting this team to the SB is if we draft a RB/FB like Brian Leonard. He needs a guy that can protect him from the blitz and become his relief receiver when there isn't one. Someone who might only get 600-800 yards rushing a year but 60-80 catches too. Fill the void Anderson created when he left years ago. With the 38th pick this is the guy we need to compliment Leon Washington. It would be like Alstot & Dunn when they played together in Tampa. Not to say Washington and Leonard will be probowlers but why not?
He had a much better rating against Buffalo than Chad did and also put up a nice game against Seattle. Chad put up big games against Houston, TN and GB. He was awful against Jacksonville and Buffalo. The Chad laterall was the killer in the NE game ball game over play, dumb decission, bad throw, choke. Grossman played extremely well against both Seattle and NO and against NO it was in terrible conditions. If they aren't better than the Colts with him as you admit, how are they better? Grossman threw more TD's and at least can get the ball down field on a regular basis which helps the running game. Chad by he's very style hurts the running game because both safties are usually on top of the LOS and even CB have to play up. Haveing the threat to go outside down the field helps the running game. Also the Jets have much better WR than Chicago does.
I like Chad as a person I just don't think he has the skill to win the superbowl even with an elite defense. At some point he has to make a play and he has done nothing to show that he can since he has been here. Chad is a great person and I wish he has the tools to win it but he does not. Especially in the Afc. Alot of people on this board feel that there are people on here that are bigger Chad than Jet fans and will defend him to the end even when he plays bad. The blame never goes to him. To me they want Chad to win to prove a point that they knew something the rest of the world didn't. I don't care who wins the big one for us as long as we win it.
I agree with drafting Leonard. Whoever the Qb is we need a blocking Weapon at Fullback. We have not had a decent one since Richie Anderson.
Alot of Chad fans don't even accept the fact that no other team would even think to bring their defense close enough to the line of scrimmage to even be able to get to a backwards lateral. If that is not total disrespect for a Qb then I don't know what is. That Lateral play tells the whole story on Chad.
You want a blocking weapon as your FB, yet you want to draft Leonard when Leonard is considered an average at best blocker. And since when is Richie Anderson known as a blocking weapon?
Let me rephrase myself. A weapon at Fullback. Blocking can be taught. If he can gain some yardage and catch some of Chad's two yard passes and turn them into first downs them Im all for it.
Give me a break man, that lateral play happened because it was the THIRD time we ran that play in the game. If that play says anything about anyone it says that Schott should not be running the same play against the Pats three times in the same game. It had nothing to do with Penny or his lack of arm strength.
"Blocking weapon" may be a bit strong, but Richie was a very good, and under rated blocker, just ask Cmart and Parcells....
Well I ended up misunderstanding what he meant by that, but yeah I agree Anderson was a good blocker but when I think of a "blocking weapon I think of a Lorenzo Neal type of guy.
Do you think they would stack the line against any other Qb in the Afc that is superbowl ready even if they had called that play five times in the game. Chad is supposed to be a scholar so why didn't he audible out of it? The way the Pats charged that play was insulting to Chad. It showed a utter lack of respect. What does that say about your qb when you have to call the same play ( A quick lateral) three times in the game because he can't throw it down the field in an obvious passing situation.
I don't know, call me crazy but I seem to remember a 77 yard TD pass going downfield earlier in that very same game. Listen I am tired of talking about the QB situation. Pennington is what he is which is the best option we have at this moment. Being a Jets fan you should know how hard it is to find a Qb that can lead this team to the playoffs every year he has been healthy since we have NEVER had a Qb who has done that before. Is he a great QB? no, but certainly the best one we have and certainly capable of winning a SB with.
Im sick of the Qb talk as well. I don't want to go to the playoffs I want to go to the superbowl. Chad's one and done playoff performances do not do it for me. That 77 t/d play was more Cotchery than Chad.
