http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pl...gnews.asp?sport=NFL&id=2060&line=89879&spln=1 Mughelli would be a good signing for FB, very good blocker.
Clement overachieved for us. He was brought in as a depth guy and won the starting job. He was solid and I would have liked to bring him back... This creates a hole along the o-line now. Doesn't make much sense to me.
I like the Clement release - it signals to me that the Jets are committed to upgrading the offensive line, which is an idea I fully subscribe to.
I hope they find a way to bring Clement back. I really liked him and I think he can be solid again for us in 2007
folks this is a bit similar to the mawae spot last year at this time. i remember saying to myself after the mawae release that the jets just announced to EVERYONE they would take mangold in the draft. and they did.... now they do not have a starting RT....hmmm obviously tells me that the starting RT isn't on the roster....yet. jil
I am assuming that Clement expressed he want to be compensated like a starter and since he is not the long-term answer at RT, the Jets probably wanted to pay him back-up money.
or they already have someone on the roster they feel is ready to step into the starting role? Blanton or Dorsey maybe? We'll see, I'm not really surprised by this news..
Clement had a fluke season. He's a mediocre journeyman who played like a solid starter. As a general rule, it's never good to try to catch lightning in a bottle twice with the same veteran overachiever.
I think we should have kept Clement for depth at the very least. So long BJ, thanks for making our 2003 3rd round pick well spent......
Agreed. However, he might just be another 1 year wonder with Dallas as Clement was for us. But I'd rather have Colombo. Oh, and yes 1000 times to Mughelli.
Columbo is no better than Clement. Columbo was not good for Dallas but benefitted from the "America's team" Overhype. To me, this is bitter sweet. Surely Clement exceeded all of our expectations and most likely deserved to be re-signed...w/ that said, this appears to be a commitment from the FO to upgrade the OL even further.
I'm dissappointed by this..... I actually feel that the coaching staff never fully utizlized BJ Askew as a player, he was a good athlete but was never given the ball.......
I hope they're more focused on getting an offensive line than a feature back in free agency and the draft. Leon can be the guy with a better RT, G and a big blocking FB.
my thoughts exactly. I'm not much of a draft geek, so I dont know what kind of players are RT first round material, but I wouldnt be surprized if we select a RT first round or early second. And if that does happen, I will be a happy man.
how bout leonard davis as a FA...... may not be a bad thought considering he has experience at both guard and tackle. if the spot isn't filled in FA i would expect one of the day one picks to be on the OL. jil
weird. Tannenbaum said he wanted to fill as many holes as possible in order to give himself flexibility with the draft, which I think is a great idea, but letting Clement go goes against that. Odd. As for Askew - who the hell cares.
