I'm not sure if you can rely on Kendall at all, being he was horrible when he had to play it two years ago, even if it is as a backup.

According to this cap page, he had no signing bonus and $720K in base salary. So I guess, if JI2004's site is correct, we save $720K.

Kendall gave up two years ago when Mawae and Fabini went down. The shift to center was part of the problem but the other part was he just did not believe the personnel after the injuries were up to the task of facing NFL caliber front 7's.

Whether or not he could play center if Mangold went down is an open question, but like the Mawae injury of two years ago the Jets would be reeling and swaying with the season in the balance and the last time that Kendall faced that he crumbled.

I'd like to see the Jets draft a decent center/guard prospect on the second day and go with him as the backup. That way Mangini would at least have some options if we lost Mangold and faced collapse on the line.

I have no problem with this. Mangold missed all but like 2 plays and Teague was getting old. I would draft a younger G/C Prospect.

Would've liked to keep him for depth.

Wade Smith is a solid backup OL, he can play any position on the line. Teague will not be the same after his injuries this past year.

Jiminy christmas! Kendall absolutely SUCKS as a center! That's like my worst nightmare.... Kendall at C. OMG.... I think I'm gonna puke.

I REALLY don't like this cut. It leaves us without a backup C. Edwards nade the same mistake, and we had no less than 5 fumbled snap exchanges in 3 games, and no one to make the blocking assignment calls for the O line. Heck, Kendall didn't know who HE was supposed to block, nevermind calling the assignments.

They had damn well better get another C on this roster, or I'm gonna be pissed. Yeah, I know..... The Jets don't care if I'm pissed. This sucks.

    Jiminy xmas eh???

Lol...well we don't know the whole story...what if he was like LeCharles Bentley and the injury was lingering so much he would miss add'l time in the upcoming season (Bentley of course losing all of 07). It seems like it would have made sense to keep him around, but not seeing him play all year, being as old as he is, and the possibility of the injury still lingering are more then enough for me to make a move on him. A pity...wish he never got injured in the first place :( Looks like I need to look at FA centers now...

The Jets still have Charles Missant on the roster who played well at Center in NFL Europe last year and the team is supposedly pretty high on. Trey Teague sucked before we got him (although I don't want to rehash that whole argument again) and would bring nothing to the table. If the front office is not enamored with the idea of Missant or Kendall backing up Mangold I'm sure they have a plan in mind. This is addition by subtraction in my mind...

I never really liked Teague, but he did provide versatility and he wouldn't have been a terrible swing backup.

I hope we have a draft pick to upgrade with in mind.

I don't know anything about this Missant guy but you could be on to something. Also I'm with you, Teague sucked when we signed him.. Buffalo was soo happy to get rid of him. But yeah we dont wanna start that whole argument up again.

Also, I dont think we need to worry too much about a backup center - Mangold is one tough cookie and plays through pain. So unless its like something major (knock on wood) save our money, we'll be fine.
