looks like we HAVE TO draft a DE, no signing one this year, so, say hello to Lamarr woodley/Quentin Moses/Carriker/Moss (pick one)

That is, after we take MICHAEL BUSH

Agreed! Grant getting tagged was horrible for the Jets. The draft just doesn't have what we need for our DL unless we sacrifice something serious to move up. We need to upgrade our DL in free agency with a prime time player and not some over the hill retread like Kimo. I have no problem with us throwing serious money at a guy like Coleman.

I'd still rather sign a DE in free agency than draft one. We need immediate help at that spot. The only guy who should immediately play would be Carricker, but he won't be there.

I've been pushing for Kenyon Coleman for a little while now, hopefully they look in his direction.

Well he was on our free agent radar. People read the Jets Forum first, so this is where it gets noticed. He has the size to be a 3-4 DE.

IMO the best place to look for the young prototypical 3-4 end is the draft and only the draft. the colleges have a plethora of DE/DT tweeners that will not be able to make the transition to a 4-3 DE or DT and this is where your 3-4 ends become available.

case in pt - ellis at tennessee - if i recall correctly the scouts were concerned about his speed and agility as a DE in a 4-3 and that he was not compact enough for DT in a 4-3. so the decision to draft him as a 3-4 end which was the proper call by groh/parcells or whoever.

its a shame he got turned around a few times with the jets coaching non-sense. if he was drafted by the steelers or ravens you think they would have moved him around. no way.

most of the DE free agents are coming from a 4-3 system so the available pool is not very deep. though that will change cause there are more teams going back to a 3-4.

i think the jets will target one of the higher rated DE's on the board and go after him - even of that means changing draft position up or down.

it is a serious position of need on the team with regard to talent AND depth.

The only one out of that bunch that is actually a DE is Carriker, the rest would be OLB in the 3-4. I think our best bet would be to sign a veteran DE, either Vonnie Holliday or Kenyon Coleman and take a chance on a DE later in the draft. Rookie DE usually don't produce too much in their first season, we need someone who will make an impact now. Holliday would be a great option, even though he is a little old, his numbers have not fallen off at all and our new DL coach Quinn is his old coach from the fins.

You can be sure Tannenbaum is calling up his good friend Bill Parcells for the insiders word on Mr. Coleman....

Kenyon Coleman would be a nice pickup. I'd like to see Dave Ball improve, I loved his hustle. Ideally, you'd like to see them pick up a big defensive tackle and move Robertson outside.

There's a ton of cap room out there. Almost all the prime guys are gonna be franchised this year.

Corey Redding and Davis might not be but the cupboard is gonna be pretty bare other than that.
