actually I dont hate him. I hate the people who think hes ray lewis or brian urlacher. and I wouldnt trade him for a stick of gum, but I would trade him for an all pro running back and the 6th pick of the draft! Really not that crazy if you think about it, is it?

Nobody said he was Ray Lewis or Urlacher. This is where I think some of the trade Vilma fire stems from. Thinking a player is good and saying he is top 3 in the NFL are 2 different things..

there are plenty of people who think vilma is top 5 LB's, can we agree on that? and its ridiculous. But all that aside, I get accused of hating Vilma because Id be willing to trade him for a back who has 3 1500 yard and a 1300 yard season in 5 years plus the number 6 pick in the draft(and give up the 25) this makes me a vilma hater??? or as that misguided unknowledgeable poster who put me on ignore says, this is a lopsided trade......its just ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous...too many 16 year olds on this board who have no idea what theyre talking about.....Farrior thrived under Parcells...that was Ellis other brilliant comment...he had about 30 tackles a year the last couple years with fat tuna...and 2 or 3 sacks......I guess those are great numbers for the great roaming Jon Vilma to aspire to. hahahaha Ellis go get a clue dude........

No, you get accused of hating Vilma because all you do is bash the guy relentlessly. You post like you have an agenda against the guy.

Wow, talk about viewing this through green colored glasses. Vilma is a good player, but he's not worth a top 10 pick, and definitely not top 5. He plays a position (LB) that is typically not as highly valued as most other positions. He also has not proven to be a dominating LB by any stretch yet. Good to very good: yes. Dominating: No. I believe he'd have first round value in a trade, but nothing better than a pick in the mid to late teens.

Vilma is easily worth a top 5 pick, but he will not be going anywhere. He just needs better talent around him. In the 4-3 he is able to make up for other players mistakes and does not have to take on a guard 1-1. The 3-4 is more of a team style defense that needs the whole unit to execute in order for it to be successful.

pretty good thread here but you have to have on your hard hat.....

the scenario is NOT out of the question. i do believe the jets will be approached eventually about the availability of vilma and they will listen. why not?

now whether they can receive proper value for him is another ? rarely do you get a higher draft pick in return so the jets could never garner a top 10 pick in round one. IMO - the jets would have to package vilma with another pick or 2 and receive another player plus picks from that team.

i like vilma as much as the next guy but there does come a time when you have to maximize his value to your team and that may not be on the field in a 3-4 defense.

    ok lets get this straight.

Vilma is not garbage, thats why people who think he doesnt fit the 3-4 still think we can trade him top 10.

Portis is not injury prone, anyone remember his rookie year when he literally ran around between and over defenses? Oh thats right, he still does it. This guy is a totally legit back. Which is why the Redskins were willing to let the best corner in the game go for him.

Vilma is a defensive captain. You cant put a price on that. Now his performance last yr, not impressed. Now we know the DL play was shoddy. But at times he was literally non existant.

But when it comes down to it, the only way this move would be worth making in my eyes is if they re-tooled the OL. Even then I find it hard to call this trade a no brainer considering it was his first yr in the 3-4 and Kimo was a speed bump.

oh well, I'm split down the middle.

Frankly, getting the #6 pick and portis for Vilma and the #25 is not that bad a deal. I like Vilma and I think if LArry Foote can play ILB, then so can Vilma. I do like the #6 pick and I do like Clinton Portis, but I think Portis has a lot of miles on him, no matter his age. I think we can find a serviceable RB more easily than we can find a defense-coordinating ILB. I think after the combine we'll have a better sense of just what players the #6 and #25 picks will get, and until then it's an open-ended question. BUT, my feeling is: don't give up Vilma.

so I guess youre dismissing the 6 or 7 valid points Ive made in this thread to support a trade for Portis because youve decided I have an agenda......

Vilma's "defense-coordinating" skills are very over-rated at this point. The Jet's D hasn't been anything special at all in the two years he's been in the role. Anybody who thinks he "coordinated" the defense in 2004 as a rookie doesn't know Donnie Henderson very well.

What I cannot understand is why all you supporters of JV want to keep a NON PRODUCTIVE player on the team that is already quite devoid of talent? If we had such a bounty of riches in talent then I can see carrying JV but you are talking here of a team that has only a very, very few superior players but lots of average to below average players & you are saying oh what the heck JV is a nice person so what the heck we will give up a roster spot to a NON PRODUCTIVE player cause I spent $100.00 for my JV jersey & I do not want to see my $100.00 go down the toliet bowl if they were to move JV.

The idea is you ALWAYs want to upgrade the team to make it stronger not make the team weaker or stay the same & if Man & Tan are not doing that then they should be immediately fired.
