Anyone think that as a way of freeing up the FO on draft day the Jets may go after one of the bigger named guards? Kris Dielman was an alternate in the Pro Bowl and was a big factor in Tomilson's year. Also you would think Schottenheimer would be familiar with the type of player he is. Derrick Dockery of Washington is a big big dude at 6'3 340+ and could be the type of road grader on the right side the Jets could use. Eric Steinbach was a high draft pick for a guard and has alot of talent. I think everyone would love to see a guy like Justin Blaylock taken with our 37th pick but if we could get some veteran help on the offensive side of the ball and go primarily defense for the draft we'd have a better chance of more rookies making an immediate impact.
Kris Dielman, San Diego Eric Steinbech, Cincinnati Leonard Davis, Arizona (T/G) Derrick Dockery, Washington http://football.about.com/od/nationalfootballleague/a/freeagentOG.htm That's a nice list for ALL positions.
As I stated in another thread... I'd love to see us upgrade the OL w/ a mauling RG/RT to anchor the running game and seal things off for cutbacks for Leon and B Smith. The problem is, this FO for going on 5+ years has not been very high on bigger, road grading type Linemen, preferring light weight technicians. Therefore the only 2 possibilities I see for us in FA are Steinbach(who is pretty athletic) and possibly Dielman due to Schotty's time in SD and his familarity w/ the system.
I think LT was a big factor in LT's year. You don't overpay for any guard in the league. Look at Brandon Moore a grime DT convert and his a solid starter.
It's pretty well known that he's a lazy player. That's one of the reasosn he never really lived up to his potential. He was picked #2 overall I believe.
What about Sean Locklear? He's a young, strong guard that happens to be a FA. Or did he re-up with the Seahawks?
Locklear has played RT for the Seahawks. Had some domestic issues. he was pretty solid in the seahawks run last year. I wouldn't be opposed to him but I want Dielman.
I like Dockery quite a bit too. Why Dielman? Chargers fans were talking about him wanting Hutch money, and he isn't half the guard Hutch is. Plus, there are far cheaper options that could be just as good.
ther the jets..they never spend on big name o=lineman, they will draft a r tackle, so they can build the o-line together, then when they are all playing well, they will let them walk in free agency and start over again
If the JETS would be able to land Leonard Davis and move him back to RG where he was a monster in his first two seasons in the league that would definitely help the JETS out in the running game with Davis's size and physical aggressiveness. I'm sorry but Brandon Moore will probably be challenged a whole lot for the RG position during training camp.
You mean when he gave up 12 sacks and his team was 27th and 15th in the league rushing respectively. He was never a monster, and there are much better FA guard choices out there in my opinion....
Oops, missed the part about him giving up 12 sacks. I was going to say you were judging Davis based on the whole lines performance.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. Also, in his first two years he was playing with the likes of Anthony Clement, Pete Kendall, L.J. Shelton, Chris Dishman, Mike Gruttadauria. He was the weak link, not the monster some are portraying him to be. I'm not trying to say he sucks, just not the upgrade people are making him out to be. For the money, there are much better choices to be had....
