Thank God. The Bernie era is finally over. 10P, this is one subject we totally agree on!

He's managed some great things at the plate for us, but the time has come to move on.

One of the women at work yesterday was all upset. She was saying "But it's Bernie!" All I did was jerk my thumb and say "Hit the road Jack."

Cash, just give him a one day major league contract, let him retire in pinstripes out of respect, and let's move on.

"Than God the Benrie era is over"? That's a litrle harsh, yes it's time to move on but benrie was a great player for us, a key player on dynasty teams and was all class. it's a necessary day BUT a sad day not a happy day for Yankee fans.

That's the opinion held by a lot of people. Me personally, I haven't liked Bernie since day one. It's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.

As far as it being a sad day, I see it the opposite way. I would have probably said it was a sad day IF he had hung up his jersey with some grace and class. Instead, he tried yet another comeback. What would this have been, the third?

Donnie bowed out, when he could probably have played a couple more years and actually won a ring. O'Neil knew when to hang it up.

While Bernie may still be able to hit, he is a defensive liability, and has been for a long time. When Damon's arm is an IMPROVEMENT in center field, you have a problem. Not to mention, he has a terrible eye for fly balls. There's no reason a guy with as much speed as Bernie has always made me hold my breath so many times on balls out to the track.

I'm ecstatic Bernie is done in the Bronx, hence my "Thank God" comment. You're not the only person that feels differently, and I don't hold it against anyone who has sentimental feelings about it. However, there's no way I'm going to look at this as anything but great for the organization. Mattingly retiring so the Yankees could pick up Tino was heartbreaking for me. Bernie retiring so we can finally put a young rising star like Melky on the bench is a reason for me to celebrate.

Its not even so much a young star Doug Fing Meicatwitz (Check spelling) has taken B W's roster spot which is B.s BW put up better numbers across the board last season and played a major role on that team last year when all those injuries took place DM shouldnt even be allowed to wear a Yankee uniform never mind walk in the stadium every day send him to Philly !!!! Now Donny Baseball was a good player and I hope he will Take over when ever Joe Torre steps aside . I understand baseball is about Money Talks and BS walks . But Bernie after all he did for the Yankee Franchise deserves a better FARWELL !!!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one... Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate Bernie but I thought he was totally overrated... When he was in his prime it seemed his hits and RBI's were meaningless to the outcome of the game... Other than the walkoff HR against Balitmore in 96 I really don't remember that many Bernie moments.

he practically carried us to the WS in 1996, this guy has a million big hits for us. I don't know what you were watching.

What about bernie could you possibly not like? Was it his AS level production? hs clutch hitting? being a key part of 4 Championships? carrying himslef w/ class? What exactly didn't you like?

I can understand wanting to see him retire but to not have liked him when he was great for su I don't understand that one.

Wow, I guess some Yankee fans have a short memory. I can understand being glad to see him gone at this point, but overrated? He was a great player in his prime.

I am stunned, Bernie was a major part of the resurgence of the Yankees. People forget we were awful around the time Bernie came up and Bernie along w/ other young players and some good trades and FAs helped build another dynasty. Bernie was basically the first piece and he was a great player for us(borderline HOFer though he'll fall short) and a class act.

He had great numbers, yes... In the clutch though? Mr. GIDP... to me Bernie was always just there...

If their was an overrated Yankee, it was Jorge Posada. Posada I was never a big fan of, but his hits usually came during a 6-1 game, stuff like that, never trusted him in a big spot, and he was just a compiler.

Bernie was clutch, and anything but overrated. A great fielder in his day and his bat was always good...Sad to see him go.

Yeah, in the last few seasons. But in his great years, in his prime...Always trusted Bernie in a big spot.

His overall numbers are almost identical to Jeter both in the postseason and the regular season. Bernie had alot more big time years then Jeter as well.

I know that... but it always seemed to me that Bernie got most of his hits when the game was in hand and not in the clutch... the opposite of Jeter...

So the pen scored enough runs to win? The pen was amazing and a key to our Championship butif you don't score you don't win. He carried us against texas, he won ALCS MVP and while he didn't do much in the '96 WS down 2-0 in game 3 he gave us our 1st lead w/a 1st inning RBI and hit a HR later that pretty much iced it. In the '96 LDS and LCS he hit .471 w/ 5 HRs and 11 RBI. That's just 1996 there are a million more big hits from bernien through the years.
