Jabba, I know you don't project trades in your mock, but i'm wondering in your opinion - will the Jets try to trade down in round 1 or 2 to pick up extra picks and still be able to get the players they want?
I think it's a solid possibility. We have potential Day 1 needs at RB, WR, OG, OT, DE, NT, OLB and CB. Robertson could play 3-4 DE, solving that problem and Washington/Houston could form a solid starting combo with some OL help. But we still need a bit more help at other positions. We won't be big players in free agency IMO. I think we're more likely to acquire players via the draft. Don't exclude Adrian Jones/McCareins being traded for a late round picks either. Trading down would make a lot of sense to me and it is a solid possibility, but I see now you were asking Jabba... :grin:
lol, i realized after the fact that the question looked like it was directed solely to Jabba and not everyone, my apologies for that. I agree with your points, about what we have vs. what we need. My major reason for asking the question was due questioning whether the players he projected us taking would be available a few slots down, just cause I'm wondering how much flexibity we have and how far can we go down and still get the guys we are projecting

THAT'S FOOLS GOLD .. these prospects usually take some time to develop, so I hope we fill a few needs in free agency which will give us more leeway in the draft, greater leeway to select the BAP if the value is obscene As for Houston, I LOVE HIM .. nice size, nice speed, very physical, and he's a legit Bump & Run Corner, a dying breed .. and those are the guys who can be your "Shutdown Corners", to use a modern phrase
I don't think Houston will be on the board at 25 .. right now that appears to be the case if you look at most mocks, but I see this kid flying up the board as the draft approaches .. I suspect he'll run a 4.4 or Sub 4.4 at the combines, which makes for a nice size/speed ratio {5' 11"/185 - 4.4}, and they'll see a legit Bump & Run Corner as well Blalock and Johnson probably project to spots where I slotted them, early 2 and late 2 But it's all still up in the air, illmatic .. Gotta see what unfolds at the combines
Jabba do you think Jay Moore is a 3-4 End or Outside Linebacker. He is like 6'5" 280 right? Is that too big to play OLB. I've never seen him play but it seems like he has the frame to put on 10 pounds and man the trenchs. What do you think?
I want to wonder why we wouldn't jump on Moses with our first first. Or at least Spencer. And not into CB in the first round. In fact...I have no idea WHO we should be looking at in the first round. The first round kind of just...stops after a while right now (pre-combine). Seems like it's about 15-20 picks deep. It's part of the reason I don't care if we use it on Turner.
Everyone is billing Tank Tyler as soft and/or lazy. It seems to me these are the same issues that Vince Wilfork had when he came out, due largely to the fact that he had weight issues in college. Wilfork's problems are now under control, couldn't the Jets work to do the same with Tyler. Does Tyler have some other issue that I have missed? I know this has nothing to do neccessarily with Jabba's mock, but he is a Knowledgable poster who goes way back to the old boards (as do I, in fact the name of YoungJet is kinda outdated, as I am not that young anymore) and I like getting his opinion. To me Tyler seems like a legit NT prospect where any of the other guys who project to NT seem like major projects. Love the Mock Jabba, though I'm hoping we take 1 of the corners away from our two AFC East foes as that would both help us and hurt them.
I'm noticing that too. I'm not sure that it wouldn't be more effective to trade up or trade the #1. Heck it might be even better to trade back, maybe a second this year and a first next year?
I Hate first round corners. And if the FO does to me this year what they did to me last year (I loved Maroney) and they let the Pats take Rice, instead of bringing him here (Rice and Blalock would make this offense hum....) I'll be homicidal.
Yea, I also thought about trading back. Seems like having 3 seconds in this draft is FAR better than having a late first. Theres some legit talent out of the first...like Moses, Blalock, Miller, Gonzalez...all those guys are projected in the second or later. Still, nothing about the draft is set until after the combine.
Thanks YJ, the feeling is mutual my young {older} friend :grin: Tank Tyler is a reach for the Cowboys at 22 and he would be a reach for the Jets at 25 He probably carries a 2nd RD Grade, but he'll probably go higher than his grade because he's one of the few legit NT prospects in this draft and a number of teams play the 34 defense I could see the Cowboys reaching for Tyler because Fergy is aging and ineffective, and behind him there is really nothing to speak of at NT in Dallas .. that puts them in a huge bind because they are NOT moving out of the 34, they are too built for that defense and it best suits their best player on defense as well, Demarcus Ware .. so I could see them being desperate enough to reach for Tank at 22 We can certainly use another NT as well, but IMO we're not as nearly as desperate as Dallas .. D-Rob is still young and he's pretty good, not great but not horrible either, pretty good starter .. and we have Pouha coming back with Rashad Moore for depth, with a kid like Keyonta Marshall {330 Pounder} on the practice squad who was a dominant small school player and may be able to take a few snaps at NT next year as well So I believe the Jets are far less likely to reach for Tank Tyler I think the Jets would view 34DE as the bigger need along the D-line JMO YJ
His Senior Bowl measurables were 6' 4" 1/2 and 275 I suppose you can use Willie McGinnist as an example .. 6' 5"/270 and he really excelled as a 34 OLB for the Patriots Charles Haley was another guy who was bigger than the average OLB in his day, but he played a little of both, OLB in the 34 and DE in the 43 .. basically got after the QB from both spots, much like John Abe who has played both during his career, starting as a 34 OLB then switching to 43 DE I believe the 34 teams will view him in that light Rambo, while the 43 teams will view him as a defensive end
I know McGinest is up there, Merriman is at least 270 so it is certainly possible. Like I said, I've never seen the guy play but certainly at 270 he wouldnt be a good end. 280 and up I'd have to think twice though.
