I thought this would be fun to do since its the offseason and we as Jet fans have nothing to do until the news starts spewing out during FA, Draft, TC, and what not... i got into a heated debate on friday with my friend who is a Cowboys fan and a HUGE Michael Vick fan, he happens to think that Vick is a way better QB then Penny. I thought otherwise, and he felt obligated to point out that Vick has a better record then pennington as a starter, and if the Jets and Falcons were to switch QB's for one season and keep the same core players on their respcitive teams, that Vick would thrive with the Jets, and Penny would choke on the Falcons...he blames a large portion of Vick's inablility to pass on the basis that his recievers suck...he also pointed out that Coles and Cotchery are one of the best WR tandems in the NFL, so make your case, who do you think is a better QB, and who is more valuable to a team. and if anyone can find their records as starters as well, it would be appreciated.. GO!!!
Great if there is one QB in the league that would cause more strife on a message board if he was the Jets QB it would be Vick. Picture Pennington............. no arm and no legs but a great head for the game. Picture Vick........... Great Arm, great legs and absolutely no head. They are like mirror images of one another. One is dead from the neck up, the other is dead from the neck down. Really, this is like the choice between Death or Ooga Booga!
I will take the runner as the other guy is too one dimensional! CHAD is OK as a passer but his brain gets too much credit! He threw a lot of bonehead INTS this year and has failed to get us a TD in the red zone quite a bit! VICK scares teams! CHAD doesn't!

Pennington. No contest. What has Vick done in a weak NFC compared to Pennington in a tough AFC? Vick did make it to a Title game though.... and was SMOKED.
There is no doubt in my mind. I would go with Vick. The only reason he has underperformed is because the coaching on Atlanta has been terrible since he got there. How do you not better utilize a talent like his? Shottenjunior's job on the Jets is to plan around Chad's limitations and to narrow the gameplan down to one that Chad can handle. If Vick was the QB, it would be more of utilizing his many, many talents. Maybe that means limited his ability to make decisions because he tends to make more bad decisions than Chad. Fine. Good coaching can fix that, first of all. And Vick more than makes up for it with the other things he brings to the table. That being said, Vick's off the field problems would be the only reason I would think twice.
Schottenheimer designed this offense around Penny's strengths which are his mind and accuracy. If Vick were QB we'd have a totally different system. I hate Vick though, I think he's just not made for the NFL. I'd rather have Pennington's mind, accuracy and leadership than Vick's arm, legs and attitude.
They both have identical 58% winning percentages. Vick, however, is below500 the last two years and his winning percentage is aided by an 11-4 record in 2004. Pennington has had one losing season - 2003 - when he was 4-5. As for QB numbers - ratings, completion percentage, TD to INT ratio, etc - Pennington blows Vick away. Let's face it, Vick is a great athlete, but is a lousy QB. His reputation as a coach killer is accurate. Anybody who favors Vick is more interested in being entertained than in winning. This comparison is not even close.
Pennington is 10 times the QB Vick is. Vick has shown little to no improvement as a starter, and right now is the most overrated player in any sport IMO.
your assumption is incorrect! You can have all the stats in the world favor CHAD and he will still NOT win a big game by coming from behind! CHAD is just too limiting! The jury is out wiyh VICK. Lets see what a new system and better coaching will do. Our system is designed to maslk CHADWICK's flaws and minimize mistakes yet he threw hius share of rookie-like picks! If I were to start a team I'd want NEITHER one to build a team around! Talk about coach killing, ya gotta wonder if Chad killed HACKETT because HACKETT designed schemes to help CHAD with his limitations.
last time i checked pennington threw 17 tds to 16 ints. that doesnt seem very accurate to me. compared to 20:13 for vick. looking at that i dont see how anyone can say that pennington is clearly better. not to mention vick has the potential to be great, which is somthing that cannot be said for chad
Pennington isn't a moron he is a starting QB in the NFL and a leader on and off the field. Vick has herpies and smuggles liquid THC onto planes.
I was just summing both guys up. If I was starting a team I would rather have Chad, he is smarter and can win games. Vick just sucks, he should be a receiver or some kind of hybrid because as a QB he is an abortion. But really neither is any great shakes. One is a little better than mediocre the other slightly worse.
Pennington is more of a leader and does not need an entire offensive scheme based around him to succeed.
i dont think blisters on his penis and insane itching constitutes him as a bad QB however.... if the game is on the line with 2:00 left, i want Pennington throwing the ball...If i want to take a team to the Playoffs and possibly to the SB, i want Pennington, Vick is a horrible passer, hell any fast QB can run, even Vince Young "ROTY" is already a better quarterback then Vick... you cant blame all Vick's failure on his receiving core when he cant even get the ball to them <----- not aimed at you jetsvilma
