Sorry but Have to ask U the same question I just asked Miami PUck which is If he is so smart as U allege how come after at least 2 mini camps, 5 weeks of TC & xhibition games, 16 regular season games. 1 bye week & 1 PO game he still does not understand the 3-4 D?
Sorry but Have to ask U the same question I just asked Miami Puck & Edd which is If he is so smart as U allege how come after at least 2 mini camps, 5 weeks of TC & xhibition games, 16 regular season games. 1 bye week & 1 PO game he still does not understand the 3-4 D? Remember he is the one who admitted this! As for the rest what happens if there is no "gem" in the draft or thru UFA? Do we continue to allow the other side to plow thru us at 5 or more yds a clip cause JV cannot stop them at the POA?
Sorry but Have to ask U the same question I just asked Miami Puck, Edd & GM which is If he is so smart as U allege how come after at least 2 mini camps, 5 weeks of TC & xhibition games, 16 regular season games. 1 bye week & 1 PO game he still does not understand the 3-4 D? oh my gahh. all right all right, just don't ask that f**king question anymore. you're a broken record. did you ever stop to think that maybe, because he never played a 3-4 in his life, he may need a little bit longer to learn a complex, Mangini 3-4 scheme? combine that with the weak D-Line and it's easy to understand why he isn't making plays at the line of scrimmage. the fact that he is the one calling plays, Defensive audibles - the fact that Mangini has entrusted him to do so - should tell you that the guy is smart. cheers
You have been "speaking" English for 60+ years, yet you have not grasped basic grammar or spelling. Who is the smart one now?
All I know is that I trust the judgement of the HC a lot more than the judgement of some grumpy, senile poster on a Jets' message board like champ. When Mangini keeps JV out there next season, I guarantee you that champ will turn on Mangini and claim he doesn't know what he's doing because, as we all know, champ is the only one who knows anything about football. If the coaches believe in him, that's good enough for me and a lot of other people. No LB will be as effective with a poor DL as he would with a good DL. None.
This is simple.. 90% of our defense had too adapt to a completely new defensive scheme. It is hard to "stand-out" in a defense unless everyone on the team understands a 3-4 scheme, and is clicking on all cylinders. Vilma is picking up his new role at a very high rate, and the time frame of just one season is not very long for adapting to a new defensive scheme at all. They struggled as a whole in the start of the season, but it was obvious our D was FINALLY getting it. Vilma has talent, and will be a playmaker, but he needs for his team to free him up so he can disprove your theories. I recall the only thing that he admitted was that he was not used to this type of scheme, and was not playing to his full potential because he was being forced to learn a new system. This does not tell you exactly where he is in his learning curve with this system, and this only should show you that even though he is not playing to full potential now, he will eventually get this scheme down, and when he does he will be a very dominant MLB in this league. IMO
Why dont you debate him on the issue at hand instead of trying to insult his intelligence? Just a thought... EDIT: If it is in all good fun, and you guys know each other that well, then I appologize. Just silly to go on that level unless it is a buddy arguement type situation.
No, you are right. The problem is on my end I get so frustrated because time after time he dodges the question. And sometimes I snap and go for the easy out.
See that is NOT the question I asked so kiindly reread my question & if U want then reply ONLY to my question. Thanks
Here's my answer: All I know is that I trust the judgement of the HC a lot more than the judgement of some grumpy, senile poster on a Jets' message board like champ. None. See, I can cut and paste too. And if you want an even better answer, Mangini has even compared JV to Tedy Bruschi's first year in the 3-4. Bruschi had to adjust, and it took him a whole season too. Look how that turned out, he excels in that defense now.
Yes BuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuT the question is for those who say he is so smart why then can he cannot pick up the 3-4 defense after several mini camps, TC & xhibition games, 16 regular season games, a bye week & a PO game? You make it sound it is soooooooooooooooooo easy to find quality people to man the DL so possibily JV could become a decent MLB buuuuuuuuut that will be far more difficuly then you think it will be. Also besides a massive NT we need DEs with attitude. Now lets say we DONOT find those players what do we do with JV then?
Nothing is easy in football. If it was, then everyone would be able to play. Every scouting report, and I mean EVERY scouting report, lists JV's intelligence as a positive. Now you're trying to say you know more than every scout and coach that's ever known him or scouted him? Could your ego get any bigger. Picture ANY LBer, on any team, trying to make tackles when the DL is getting pushed back 3 or 4 yards into them. Urlacher would have trouble. Zach Thomas would have trouble. The DL needs to be effective for ANY LBer, regardless of size, to be effective. I couldn't even keep count of the amount of times our DL got pushed several yards back at the snap of the ball. No LB is going to excel with that type of DL play. None. Zero. Zilch.
Let's just take a look at what a group of Pro Scouts said about him: Pros: A smart signal caller on defense. Makes great reads and gets a good jump at the snap. Plays faster than his 40-time and can make plays from sideline to sideline. Gets good position when defending the interior run and uses good leverage and technique to compensate for his size limitations. Has great footwork and agility. Times his blitz well and makes plays in the backfield. Sound tackler with some pop. Cons: Undersized. Will never be able to stack at the line and gets engulfed when blockers get a shot at him. Doesn't have elite speed. Will over-pursue. SOOOOOOOOO, I guess that means he needs a big DT in front of him.
Yes but the question still is if he soooooooooooooooooo smart why is it cannot pick up the 3-4 D? This has nothing to do with getting Godzilla in front of him & BTW what do we do if we are UNSUCCESSFUL in getting a massive NT in front of JV. Do we just accept the 5 yard gains as a OK thing? Do we look to upgrade JV? If U were the GM stuck with JV & no massive NT in front of him how would you correct the problem?
No he is the one who ADMITTED it. JV himself. For sure after all that time & he still cannot grasp it you have to ask is he really as smart as people think he is cause he is the one not catching onto the D? Remember that is like now 8 months of seeing the 3-4 & still not catching it. If you were in school you would be left behiind right if you could not catch the subject that they were trying to teach U
Post the quote from him or shut up. You won't find a quote of him saying he wasn't smart enough to play the 3-4 so give it up because you're spreaing MISINFORMATION.
To bad as it looks like you do not take the time to read the newspapers every day otherwise you would have caught it
Hahaha, Jonathan Vilma never said he was not smart enough to grasp the 3-4. You can't come up with the quote because ity doesn't exist.
