And I imagine the whole breathing fire deal would not go over well either.

Now, instead of Godzilla I think they should go with Gamera. He's a little on the slower side and moves around like a turtle, but he's definitely a wide body and can really plug the holes.

Well they are looking for a so callled "big" body so I am just thinking of examples that come immediately to mind.

Champ, I don't profess to know the problem with JV, but I don't think it's mental capacity. He seems pretty sharp in that department and was tremendously successful in college (this cannot be denied). While we were in the 4-3, he had no difficulties mentally either.

So, the key to finding out what JV's problem is probably lies in going back to why and how he was successful on college. It could very well be he was surrounded with talent, which always illuminates everyone else. I'm no football historian but I'm sure someone around here will jump on this.

As far as the NT position, I'm certainly aware they don't grow on trees. This is a huge challenge and you're probably much more right than I am in that we will probably not find a seasoned one easily, if at all. But I do think our scouts might find one in the draft who we can work with.

well we've already dipped into australia, why not the far east? If you think about it, sumo wrestlers might actually be decent at NT.

Yea but they did not come immediately to mind but for sure they are "wide" bodied. Look since JV is a NYJ I want him to succeed but I am just pointing at what at this time is a quite severe weakness on the team & MUST be corrected for us to become SB Champions

Well I cannot go along with U when a player cannot pickup the D after all that time that I posted earlier. Maybe it is a mental thing cause he is playing in a 3-4 instead of a 4-3 where he was much more sure of himself . I to have no idea why he what he is at this time & why he cannot pick up our D. Look if it is so obvious to me & others here U have to assume that EM also sees what at least I & others see. The MOST important thing is it is corrected for next years run to be Champions

With this I am in total agreement. EM is no fool.

The thing I look forward to most this spring and next summer is seeing the changes. It still amazes me how well EM did and the adjustments he made in the short amount of time he's been with us. Just imagine what changes we're in for, given EM and MT have the off-season now and all spring to tinker with ideas and adjustments.

During the regular season, they had to make adjustments on the fly... adapt to stuff and a lot of new team guys on the spur of the moment. Just think what'll be possible given enough time to evaluate positions like JV's in the offseason. I'm really excited about the possibilities...

Too bad Vilma is regarded as one of the smartest players in the NFl. But why let facts get in the way.

Champ will counter by saying on draft day, he heard the experts say Vilma wasn't smart. so those are the facts - not the actual evidence you substantiated with a quotation - but what Champ supposedly heard on draft day.

    cheers

I try to use Champs' and others' viewpoints as vehicles to launch my own ideas about the Jets. In other words, I use them as stepping stones.

Their posts may not be accurate (historically correct) and they may not be "right" (concepts that agree with my concepts), but they are always the opinions and thoughts of other board posters and, as such, need be respected, however ridiculous, immature, mind-boggling, trolling, simplistic, morally corrupt, moronic and inaccurate they may seem.

I actually welcome such posts as stimulous. Without them, most of us would be hostage to responding to routine press announcements and boring, after-the-fact Jets press releases.

So post away, those that fall into this category!

I'll admit, I am a big Vilma fan. But for a reason. He is a smart player who over achieves for his size. In no way am i comparing him to Ray Lewis, but a big part of Ray's success was having a beefy line to engage the O-Line. Give Vilma space and he will make the play.

I also think the Jets played him off the line more this year. Put DRob and Ellis on the ends and find a big NT.

Yes, champ I know. these type of players do not just fall out of the sky. But, you make the FA moves or find a gem in the draft.

    i agree.

if there's one thing Vilma has, it's intellect. just because he didn't grasp the 3-4 D in his first experience playing it, doesn't mean he lacks smarts. i think we also forget that this was only his third year; he's still learning nuances of the game itself, let alone another D that is more complex than any he's probably ever played in.

with more D, and a full Offseason of stability under Mangini, and he should improve.

    cheers

LOL I love debating how smart a guy Vilma is (and he is a very smart guy) with someone that has the command of the English language at the fourth grade level.

    3rd. and 15,

1/2 of Vilma's interior line at the University of Miami was Wilfork (I think they played the 4-3 at the time). Maybe that is why he was so good at UM. He was a tackling machine. Although I had no use for college football especially UM. Watch a game it was Vilma Vilma and more Vilma that is of course if they got past that D-Line they had there.

I just can not see how the people complaining about Vilma can not grasp the concept of how poor the D-line was this year. It was bad very bad. In fact I think the LB's for the Jets had a superb year given how bad the front 3 played. Robertson did get better in the 2nd. half but in the first half he was non existent and Ellis and Kimo............ one was invisible and the other flat out sucked.

Get a real line and there will be no doubt that Vilma is an excellent LB. For F-sake how badly were people complaining about R. Lewis for the last few years, he was over the hill, stunk or was done. Well his team got a real NT/DT and he is having a superb season. Same for this D. I for one have no idea how this will be addressed, via free agency, draft or maybe from a player on injured reserve (highly doubtful) but the D-line needs a drastic overhaul. Then and only then will you see Vilma reach his full potential.

If he is so smart as U allege how come after at least 2 mini camps, 5 weeks of TC & xhibition games, 16 regular season games. 1 bye week & 1 PO game he still does not understand the 3-4 D?
