I Just posted this in the draft forum, but I thought I'd share it with the main board as well Here's a list of free agents, if it's already been posted please accept my apologies http://www.draftdaddy.com/prospects/freeagent.cfm
Rather than throw a first at the Chargers for Michael Turner, let's see what kind of tender they put on Shaun Phillips. That's precisely the kind of impact passrusher this team could use, and with the way he's progressed since he came out of Purdue, he has the sign of a Mangini guy to me. Plus, he's from New Jersey.
A solid cheap, young RB would be Musa Smith from the Ravens or Adrian Peterson from Chicago, not Oklahoma.
Musa Smith sure gets injured a lot. Given that the Ravens are mosy likely going to cut Jamal Lewis, why did they give up on Smith? He's not very durable. (Yes, Lewis is very likely to get cut.... he's due , and these aren't exact numbers, but ballparks.... a 5mil bounus and a 5 mil salary this year) I still say let's get the o line to the point where it can control the LoS first. Knock people on their arses. Then the RB situation will sort itself out. Guys like Rhodes and Turner play for teams that have good o lines and multiple weapons on offense. Their success just isn't going to translate behind the o line we have now. A Peterson is likely to get resigned, as most think the Bears will let T Jones go after the super bowl. Problem is, he's 30 years old already and will want a 3 or 4 year deal for too much $. Rumor is the Bears want to keep AP along with Benson for next year. Just wondering what J Lewis would cost. I think we might be able to get him on the cheap.
No to the RBs on this list, maybe a big olineman and a big NT or passrusher from there will be a nice start to the offseason.
Names that interest me the most are Eric Steinbach #1 and Ken Hamlin the safety. Would be huge improvements in our line and our secondary.
My favorite sleeper on that list is DT Terdell Sands The Raiders, as bad as they were, actually had an outstanding defense and this cat was one of their better players 27 Years old, 6' 7"/335 Pounds .. could play NT or some 34 DE I don't know how much he will cost, but I suspect not very much and we're like 30 million under the cap This is the type of D-lineman you wanna pickup, not old fossils like Kimo Von OLDhoffen
Randy Starks is a guy who would intrigue me as a NT simply because he's strong with long arms right now, and he has the frame to put on more weight. Unfortunately right now he's built like a 4-3 DT and he'll make alot more money that way. Still, as a 3-4 end he'd look damn good.
Corey Redding looks awfully good if he's not in the top drawer contract market. The only thing I wonder about is whether he'd actually make the transition to 3-4 DE. He was used as a DE primarily in a 4-3 and never made much impact, then he was shifted to DT last year and had a semi-breakout season. It's true that a 4-3 tackle and a 3-4 end have pretty similar roles, and a 4-3 end is not that similar to either of them.
Defintely Sands and Peterson. Is he a FA?????? He can be a surprise this year. Anybody have a scouting report from the year he was drafted.
You are thinking of Chris Henry, as for Perry, I never liked him as a runner even when he was in college, and after seeing his profile it confirms it, he reminds me of Ron Dayne, and he is coming off of injury
Perry does have pretty good hands coming out of the backfield. He's versatile though not the best runner.
I think he could be a very effective 3-4 end, but he plays incredibly high. Too high for a 3-4 nose tackle that needs to consistantly get under the center. It's not just because of his height, but he's a very attractive player as an end, because of his tremendous strength.
agree with TS....snagging him and LW from OAK would be a beautiful thing....2 monstrosities, on both O and D lines.....NICE!
nobody on the chris brown bandwagon? hes better than at least half that list. i wouldnt mind seeing him in green for the right price. also, as my sig says....i want brian leonard in green because in my eyes FB is a giant hole for the offense. askew flat out sucks. however, if we arent so inclined as to draft a FB, would you want alstott here? yes, hes old....but hes still a good blocker and short yardage runner. id give him a look if we wont address thatparticular spot in april. id like ahman green, but hes injured too often, and hes gonna be $$$$, but most of all, hell be a packer next season.
