If it was a straight unconditional trade our 25 for Turner I would take it , but put him on a short contract. I'm not totally sure of Turner and would like to see what comes available later on.

that's an interesting projection, Jabba. I like the picks you put with teams, they seem to fit needs and such, which is more than most mocks do. Were things to fall this way, I would feel much better about trading a first for Turner. BUT, that doesn't make me feel he's worth a first - it seems high given what other RBs have garnered or were projected to garner. Maybe we could pull a Doug Jolley and get their first for our first and second.

I agree that this is a very realistic prediction of how the teams before the Jets will draft. But I'd rather get Justin Blalock or Daymeion Hughes than Mike Turner. I think Leon/Cedric can get the job done.

    Still, well done.

Kubiak is an offensive guy so I don't see Houston going defensive line two years in a row, but I like the majority of it.

I'm surprised that you have Charles Johnson going above Quentin Moses--did last season really hurt his stock that badly?

If the draft plays out like that & Marshawn Lynch does indeed start to drop, we might be better off trading up in front of the Giants for him..

Right now I have him dropping slightly off this latest sexual assault allegation, and it's not the first time he's been involved in something shaddy, there was that drive-by shooting incident as well .. overall he packages himself like a bit of a thug, not necessarily his demeanor but his outward appearance

I know, innocent till proven guilty and don't judge a book by it's cover, that all sounds good in theory, and in practice, but when it comes to the draft, investing millions on a first round pick, this stuff matters and if anyone tells you it doesn't they're lying to you .. GM's take everything into account

So right now I have Lynch dropping slightly .. till we see how this allegation plays out and we can get a better feel for how he is being viewed from a character stand-point overall .. he could rise back up a few spots, drop slightly as projected here, or drop a whole lot more .. I'm still not sure, so for now I'm splitting the difference and projecting a slight drop

Having said that, I don't think he's a Tangini Guy .. I don't think they'll draft him even if he falls to 25

Thanks for the feedback, fellas

I take it very serious .. I listen to the feedback and keep an open mind

That's why I like throwing out some feeler-mocks early in the process, so other draftniks can weigh-in

You make an interesting point, with the SD @ 25 pick.

My contention is that this team suffers more from a lack of Speed on the outside. To Wit. If Rice is there at 25, I think we benefit more by going Wide
with Rice, Split with Coles, and Cotchery playing a fairly constant 3 Wide set.

The Speed Rice brings to the outside takes the 8th Man out of the box,
forcing Deep help to cover the WR, and the other safety to pick and choose, between LC and JC. Which in turn puts a LB on Baker in the seam.

Surely any Back we pick up later in the draft, or Houston/Coles would look better, and spreading the field like that will also make Pennington better...

    Thoughts?

I agree completely.....Sidney Rice would add a new dimension in our offense that we need.....he will be a star in this league, he's insanely talented and loves to play the game.

Jabba, I am not crazy about projecting trades in a mock, but do you see Turner as a draft day trade? Given the fact that there is a contract to be hammered out, that is unlikely. So, the Jets would have to pull the trigger not knowing which player they might like would fall to them. I just don't think they will part with a first for Turner, and I don't think SD would settle for less than that. Otherwise, I like it.

Think there is any interest on the Jets part in Ramirez, the RG from TX Tech? I liked what he showed at the senior bowl. He showed me despite his size, he can still pull if need be, and he proved he can run block. We already knew he could pass block.

If we are going to continue to run between the guards, we need a road grader like this kid. Thoughts?

I love that big fat mutha fletcher!

Seriously T-Brird, you just mentioned a player I would love for the Jets to draft .. only problem is, the late 2 might be a little to soon and he's probably gone before the late 3 .. but if he's on the board in RD 3, he'd be an excellent pick in that spot

As for Turner, I agree that the Chargers will demand our 1, but I have a sneaking suspecion Tangini is ready to make that deal .. and soon .. not on draft day, but early in the off-season

Call it a hunch T-Bird, but I have a feeling B-Shott {who knows this player like the back of his hand} has offered a glowing endorsement .. and it's not all hunch, this name has been linked to the Jets for months, where there's smoke there's fire, so I'm thinking the Jets are really zoned in on Turner

    AND I CAN SEE WHY

    24 Years old
    230 Pounds
    Nice size/speed ratio
    Tough runner between the tackles

And he was enormously productive in college, once rushing for 2000 Yards in a single-season

I think this kid is a franchise RB waiting to happen .. of course it can't happen in SD, he's behind an All-Time Great {LT}, but that's no indictment on Turner, he's sitting behind an All-Timer who's never hurt and never tires

But if you look at his small body of work in the pros, 5.7 YPC overall and 6.0 in his one start, you see the same things from this player you saw in college .. SAME GUY .. now he just needs an opportunity to be THE GUY

    I appreciate the feedback, Hobbes

I think Rice has a big upside, lotta tools you hope for in a wideout, but he's a little raw and I see him needing some time to develop before he makes a significant contribution .. for example, I projected Rice ahead of Anthony Gonzalez, but I actually see AG making more of an immediate impact .. I think he'll make a more significant contribution early, with Rice having the bigger upside, if that makes any sense?

Gonzalez is the type of player who could immediately become a #3 possession receiver and someone I think will make a solid #2 on a good team down the road, however I think his potential is a bit limited, I could be way off but I'm thinking Keenan McCardell at his best. Rice on the other hand could become a true #1 receiver however projecting receivers has become a crap shoot.

Also the Steelers pick is tricky because of Tomlin switches their defense to a 4-3 a guy like Moss may not fit in their new scheme.

Well...I guess my point is, the only contribution he needs to make is the THREAT of speed on the outside, so that the Offense can dictate a little to opposing defenses.

You, me, or Penny can three step drop and throw a 40 yard rainbow, and if there's a guy that can just ' go and get it' forcing the 8th man outside the box, and making the 7th man consider the remainder opens up much of the short game where we operate now, exclusively for the lack of said threat...

And I still believe, that in that instance Pennington could be one of the leagues top 3 or 4. (Like in 02, where we had Moss, Coles and Chrebet.)
Rice, Coles and Cotchery could be twice as dynamic.

I really believe, that right now, not respecting the deep play is what kills our short game , and I dont think thats on Penny, but is indicative of lack of deep talent.

Rice would be awesome to get if we didn't have any other major needs, but at this point we have one of the best WR duos in the NFL, plus Brad Smith who could be a very good #3. With major needs at RB, DT/DE, OLB, & OL, unless we are able to adress most of that in FA, we don't really have the luxury to spend a first rounder on a guy like Rice, even though he could be a fantastic player.

So...how then do you get the 8th man out of the box?

    - With the emergence of Desmond Clark, the Bears will not be in the market for a tightend.
    - Amobi Okoye is a bit too short to be a 3-4 end, and not bulky enough to be a 3-4 nose tackle. He's really just a 4-3 player to me.
    - The Rams have many more pressing needs then receiver. They can live with Isaac Bruce, Kevin Curtis and Torry Holt for another year.
    - The Cowboys problem was stopping the run, so unless they're drafting a safety that can cover, they don't need another corner. Of course teams pick on Henry, it's because Newman is better.
    - I've read numerous accounts that Eagles fans don't think Poz is fast enough for a weakside or big enough for the strongside in their particular system.

The Jets will not trade a first rounder for Michael Turner unless they're crazy. I'm sick of typing up rebuttles about how that would be one of the worst draft day trades ever for the New York Jets, if anyone wants my reasons, search for them.
