This is what happens when you have a year, like this one, to deal with. I, among others, have mentioned how POOR the ENTIRE crop of QB's are this year. From the draft pool to FA's, this is about as bad as I've ever seen it.

Yup…I don’t know that anyone is acting like Mills is a hot prospect…at least for me, I just think he’s one of the better options among a group of pretty crappy options.

The reason I say that is that he’s done ok when he’s had to start, so maybe there is some upside there…he can be a hold the fort guy and then a solid backup as needed. I don’t think he changes our fortunes this year all that much, and sure, Geno came at a much cheaper cost in terms of draft capital…so personally I’m fine with it. I don’t think much of Geno really, but I didn’t like most of the options out there anyway. I would have been fine dealing a 3rd rounder for Mills because I think he can serve as a bridge starter and then a solid backup…but when I heard the asking price was a 2nd rounder, I agree with Mougey not doing that.

Josh Dobbs released by the Pats. Not a bad QB2 option. I'd rather have him than Levis at least.

Yeah, I noted this in another thread. Dobbs wouldn't be a bad option to have sitting behind Geno. Smith, Dobbs & drafted QB (2nd round or LOWER please) wouldn't be a bad way to go into 2026.

Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M.

Well, I guess i can let that potential complaint go.

Rather have Geno for his salary.

Ya know, the clinging to lottery ticket hope that the Raiders Raider this #1st overall pick might of just went up 1% too lol.

Their desperation level to be immediately playoff relevant in that city is really just as bad as our's. Where they basically seem to live in an always half resistant to the idea of a full rebuild and you won't be winning many games mindset.

Funny you should say that, I was thinking the SAME thing when I heard that on the drive in to work this morning. Raiders are gonna "Raider."

A VERY real scenario now, they sign Cousins to start in 2026, draft one of the defensive studs at #1 and look to 2027 for their FQB of the future which leaves the Jets with Mendoza if they so choose. Personally, I think Mendoza is going to bust in the NFL so I'd go with the other option, get an absolute ass load of draft capital from one of these other desperate teams hopefully wanting to jump to 2 for Mendoza, draft our D/O stud at wherever they land and off they go. Just an opinion but I really do think Mendoza is going to be nothing more than an average NFL QB...at best.

Who knows, but I find it hard to believe the Raiders will pass on Mendoza. Signing Cousins is the bridge that allows them to bring him along slowly, which is a bit out of sync when you draft a QB first overall I guess, but I’d be surprised if they pass on Mendoza.

The Raiders will draft Mendoza at one, because of his talent, allow him to sit and develop with an NFL level playbook until really ready and not rush him on day one under the silly premise that when you draft a QB that high you start him immediately. That folklore is laughed at by good coaches and the better offensive minds.
You draft him to make him successful in the wrong run and prepare him based on his talent, readiness and potential.
Under the previous GM we did it completely opposite and dead wrong.
We over drafted the wrong guy not remotely capable to be an NFL level QB to start with, without the experience or exposure to better defenses, we let go of Sam, and thre rookie to the wolves on day one. Laughable.

Again, was just floating a hypothetical. I mean, the Raiders have done some dumb shit over the years, along with the Jets, so it wouldn’t shock me in the slightest if they did something utterly stupid like that.

I stand corrected. I should have said what the Raiders should do, what all good teams would do…..
