I am all in on picking a QB in 2027. I want no serious draft capital wasted on a QB prospect this year. This draft should be all about setting up the 2027 roster to be the best possible stage for a rookie QB to succeed. I'm okay with picking a QB in the 3rd or 4th round to push Geno this year and the Rookie next year and to become a possible long term backup. Nothing higher than that. If we can keep Geno to compete with and sometimes spell the '27 QB, all the better.
I just want to see the Jets win at least 8 games. I said it in a different thread recently, but you know it's bad when mediocrity is the Jets middle name and I'm rooting for mediocrity. Mediocrity is a step up when you're in the basement, unfortunately. PAIN. Anyway, we'll see if Mr. Slackjaw has more football intelligence than The Chimp, but I posit definitely not more than Sam Darnold. I never followed Geno Smith much after he punched his way out of here. OK, he didn't punch his way out of here, but I couldn't help myself.
The Jets have 3 first round picks next season. They have the flexibility to move up if they fall in love with a QB. They need to start winning games.
this assumes that whatever sucky team is willing to give away the "can't miss" QB for more draft capital (which they probably have already). It can happen, but seems risky to rely on that
The Jets already made it happen when they traded up for Mark Sanchez. Unfortunately the sucky team that made the trade either they were set at at QB or knew that Sanchez was a 'can miss' QB.
3 first round picks, and far to many holes to be trading up, , it's only been 16yrs since we seen the post season, what's 1 more, to get a real franchise QB
Judging by the moves so far, they don't seem to be intending to tank the season. I mean aside from trading for the statistically worst QB from 2025, but that Vegas tank job was pretty stout.
Yeah…I don’t think Glenn is in any position to tank the season….I think he has to show progress or he’s probably out. That being said, I think Mougey was pretty conservative in free agency…he signed a bunch of guys, most of them B tier type guys to raise the floor a bit rather than push the ceiling, no huge contracts…he played free agency so far like a GM realizing his roster is shit and he has to up it a bit, but he’s not swinging for fences really. The draft will bring the playmakers I hope. I think their mentality is to show progress, not to tank…
I actually think, for once, we have a GM handling free agency correctly. I've always heard the term build through the draft, supplement in free agency but that was a foreign concept to us. Mostly because we can't draft for shit. But with 4 top 44 picks this year and 3 first rounders next year, the strategy is a sound one. Now we just have to hit on the picks. I think it's a good sign that the GM didn't make any panic moves to bring in flashy names,
