Where he ultimately gets drafted will be a screaming endorsement of how important arm length is. If he goes top 5 then teams are looking past it, top 10 and they are taking notice but think his other traits will overcome. Picked outside the top 10? Well clearly the people that are paid millions of dollars to do player evaluations put a ton of stock in arm length.
Regarding Bain, I’m reminded of jimmy johnson who was pretty good at drafting. his adage was the same guys who made plays in HS, then made plays in college, will make plays in the pros. It’s a useful way to remember that football knowledge and instincts are not measured at combine (excepting wonderlic for QBs which was suspect anyway) should we be more scared of arm length or drafting the next Vernon or Maybin. Seems to be a bit crazy using. Number 2 on someone who frequently I characterized as a project this might be a case where the smart money is convincing the dumb money (teams) to go short Bain (pun intended) and long Reese while they do the exact opposite.
He would be a 3-4 DE where Reese would be a OLB, they wouldn't play the same position. Reese would be a Joker role, OLB standing up while Bain projects better inside. Or I could just be talking out of my ass because I have no idea, one or the other
I know it's fun to mock arm length, but Will Campbell had legit concerns with it. If he doesn't get over it this year, he's moving to guard. And this was a guy that everyone said the arm length wouldn't matter because he's that good.
You can't just dismiss it. Now if the guy was dominant in College but the arm is below threshold doesn't mean he would go undrafted. But it does increase risk a bit, so instead of top 5 he may go top 10 or so.
Well done, sir....well done! I'm not one for bookmarking a single thread but this one I might. If I'm correct, a couple years from now, I'll come find this and we'll touch base on how ole' Bain is doing. Personally, if the Jets pass, he'll end up being another in a VERY LONG LINE of players this organization stupidly passed on. Then again, I could be completely off base and he sucks in the NFL. You know what, I don't think I'm wrong in this case.
He is going to be a top 10 pick, I don't think anyone is saying that he will suck. Just that Reese might be better.
Speaking of what's funny do you have a review of the new SNL UK debut? Saw a couple of reviews that were both mixed that seem to indicate it needs to grow into itself. At least they're permitted to use proper language - "fuckers!"
Interesting note on Bain - because a lot has been mentioned about Reese essentially disappearing towards the end of the season. Bain had 3 sacks in Miami's first 10 games - 8 of which he failed to record a full sack. Last 5 games he had 6.5 sacks. If Miami gets shut out of the playoffs (remember they were the last ones in), he ends the season with 4.5 sacks. Do we evaluate him differently? It does show, however, that he performed his best when the lights were brightest.
What’s his tackles per game, pressures etc. look like? I only ask because I’m in traffic and can’t go look.
Locking in my $25 bets today on both Simpson (+6000 pays out $1525) and Tate (+10000 pays out $2625) to go at #2. Not enough "Woody gonna Woody" possibility consideration going in to those odds atm/imo.
I actually didn't even know that it was a thing lol But the woke comedians have destroyed our sense of humour over here, don't get me wrong there are still some good ones but I've lost touch with the new breed.
He had 6 TFLs during the first 10 games. 9.5 TFLs in the final 5. 31 tackles in first 10 games. 22 tackles in final 5. Can't find pressure #s. Again, if he's not playing the extra 4 playoff games, his stats are not flattering.
True. He was really good against Florida and Notre Dame though and he only left those games with 1 sack combined. He was chipped and double teamed a ton against Florida. I think he’s the highest floor/lowest ceiling kind of pick at 2. Reese is lowest floor/highest ceiling and Bailey is somewhere in the middle.
