Great Cman do keep us informed. I will probably be out there in Voyager's chum slick mugging you and filling the deck boxes! Does Voyager have Starlink?
Dunno. I know Sept/Oct is their prime Tuna Time. Just got back from Port Canaveral, FL. 25mi offshore on a pretty decent headboat that not only included food in the fare, but sold beer onboard for $3/can. Fishing was slow and a few local folks had the Vermillion Snappers dialed in with sardines. Wifey hit her first 2 Florida Snappers. Kept one and had to let a beautiful American Red Snapper go due to it being out of season. One MAHI came over the rail but for the most part, it was January fishing minus the bitter cold. We could see the launch pad for the Artemis II launch coming up as well. I got introduced to the local shark population on several hits. These weren't dogfish either. We're talking real deal sharks that pretty much hit anything coming up on a line. Both sharks locked up my AVET as there was no cranking happening. Had my Proteus XHF bent and frankly, I was impressed it didn't break. Went to "strike" on the AVET lever drag and it was game over. Sharks win 2-0. If that was anything like TUNA fishing, looking forward to it. I'll have heavier, more capable gear for that trip. In this situation I was outgunned no two ways about it. All in all, great trip. Loved the Kennedy Space Center and although the fishing could have been better, the boat and the mates made it work. Next trip probably in April/May Done for the winter!
Welcome to Florida.... We get 25lb snappers eaten like crackers by sharks For vermillions... double dropper rig with squid
It was like bringing a butter knife to a steak dinner! No contest. I did rail the foregrip for more leverage but with only 40lb test top-shot I was gonna get my ass kicked end of story.
1st tile trip scheduled for 3/20. According to my AI program, the best time of year to get the really big Tiles up here is March/April.
Saw a great deal on this... if you want a JETS colored jigging reel I wish it was a lefty: https://tuppens.com/products/accura...speed-green-reel?_pos=28&_fid=051fdf191&_ss=c
Think I'll pass on this. $599 just isn't in the budget right now. BTW, I did make a sale. Sold my DAIWA Tanacom 1200 E-Reel and matching Deep Drop rod. Seems this is the best time of year for selling excess gear after all.
I actually went fishing on tuesday.... Buddies didn't have charters booked, so we went looking for inshore dinosaurs. Found some BIG (50-80lbs) black drum in the ICW eating whole bluecrabs. Weather was nice, and good hanging with the homies.
Headed out tonite for a 1.5 day Tile trip to Hudson Canyon. Packing heavier clothing as the air temp offshore will be no higher than the low 40's. Hopefully the Goldens will be chewing. Its Fishin Time!!!
Too cold for me... Good Luck Oh, and I'm gonna pass on that Terez. Scored a 6'9" 20-50lb one at the StrikeZone tent sale last week for $223. Got to hold this along side the 7-2 and went this route as it felt like better for (lures/jigs) for what I was looking for
I'm looking for a 40-80 or 50-100 Hudson Canyon blank to get customized. Can't find the exact RainShadow or United Composite blank I need but I'll keep looking. Managed to boat 3 decent Goldens on a crowded headboat. Capt. kept us shallow between 500-600ft all day and a few trips to 300ft. Blueline Tiles are out of season so that was a complete waste of time. Probably won't fish that boat again for tiles. Still beats yard work though!
Well done on the Tiles! Just finished getting the boat ready although we are behind 4 boats at the yard. Should splash it by Friday. Demonstration and shakedown cruise to the Hook Friday or Saturday. Load the boat Saturday. Run out to the deep for Tiles on Sunday if the weather holds. Where were the Goldens Cman?
West side of Hudson Canyon. We crossed to the east side, completely different conditions and nothing was biting. Again, kudos to the Capt. for the gamble but it was futile. Early it was 5ft at 7secs but it did calm down as the day went on. 3lb held bottom.
Holy shit that’s a lot of weight! Sounded like a bumpy trip. We normally score on the west elbow so probably heading there or to the Tom’s if Cappy gets froggy. Will be the first long run for the boat this year.
It was bumpy to say the least. At least nobody was chumming. Had the Big Jamaica bouncing like a basketball. East side of the Canyon was completely different. flat, calm with a stiff breeze. No whitecaps. Only one jumbo Golden. The rest were mediums.
Next trip? Back to Pulley Ridge, GoM on the American Patriot. Hopefully May will live up to the reports of being the best month to fish there. I should have my Canyon stick done by then IF I can find the right blank over the next several weeks. If not, I'll bring my all purpose rods and make it happen.
Wow...it's like watching you folks talk a foreign language! Sounds like you're having fun, though! Or is it work?? Hmmm....
