True. I believe if he is there at 33 they might actually make that move and sit him for while. I have some real mixed emotions about that.
The danger to me is that if if things go south early with Geno there is a tendency to try to rush him in and he is not remotely ready, killing any chance for him to develop and wasting a high pick.

I think we will sign another veteran in this case. It's just that we don't know that now because the draft hasn't happened yet. Typically second phase of free agency starts post (and sometimes during) the draft. Our QB2 is a part of it looks like.

I thought we signed Bailey Zappe to be the veteran backup?

Zappe is the type of backup you want with an established starting QB, not backing up a guy that could be benched by week 8. Zappe can't come in and rescue a season, just a half, and maybe a game after that against a non-divisional opponent.

And yes I know you were being a smarm.

I see reports the Patriots might release Josh Dobbs... Strictly backup material here, thoughts?

But according to the massive bellsniff, the Jets should be trying to lose anyway.

I’m definitely in the minority here but I feel Simpson is going to be a good NFL quarterback. Now, having said that I get why evaluators are withdrawn on Simpson because of his lack of starts and his average back half of the season. This is valid and definitely something I consider when evaluating quarterbacks. But it’s not the be all end all!

Simpson has traits that absolutely make a quarterback coach like myself get really excited. His mechanics are a thing of beauty and you can tell he’s been coached up since he’s been a young boy. The mechanics to playing quarterback are the fundamentals that makes you a starter. His elasticity in his arm is good not great but it’s there. His footwork on 1/3/5/7 step drops is outstanding as he has a solid base at the top of the drop to deliver the football with excellent hip movement and quick release. His reads pre snap are pretty efficient and his ability to recognize the blitz and slide protection shows on film. His FBI you can tell has also been taught from a very young age. This kid is a true student of the game. He also has the ability to read coverage downfield and use his legs when it’s not there and this is a trait that a lot of 1 read QBs have like a Fields but he’s making that play after his second/third read in his progression which is amazing. His accuracy is very good from the pocket and he can throw dimes in tight windows from the pocket. His arm strength when he activates his hip and keeps his arm loose has very good velocity.

Some of the negatives I found was he didn’t have the best body language after he made a bad play. This tells me he’s hard on himself and wants to be perfect. I saw that when he tried to make off platform throws to try and make a play he was forcing the ball downfield. He has to stick with what he does best and carve teams up from the pocket and make plays with his feet when it’s not there. His size is on the smaller side and will need to add muscle to his core while maintaining the elasticity in his right ar

The track record of QBs that don't even have a season worth of starts is stellar in the NFL ;)

If Ty Simpson becomes a good NFL QB I will officially give up pretending I know anything about QBs for life.

I watch him play and I see a guy who sucks. If I'm wrong then its clear I dont know anything and I will resign myself to that fact

The body language is the “fly in the ointment.” (always loved that saying)

The one thing you can guarantee, in the NFL, is that half of what you do is not going to go exactly right. How the player reacts to disappointment or an unsuccessful drive is very important. The guys, like Tom Brady, will go back to the sidelines, angry and on fire, trying to pump up his teammates. On the other hand, the guys that mope around or have dejected body language impact that unquantifiable energy and can bring an entire sideline down. You can call it the maturity quotient.

On a team, like the Jets, there is no room for the mopey kind of player. No matter how skilled or qualified they are their demeanor and mindset can be the piece that pushes the rest of the team over the edge to mediocrity or worse. We need someone to come in, that has all the confidence in the world, with the mindset of a cornerback, to bring this organization to some form of respectability. The true unknown is how much of that can be taught versus how much of it must be natural and then built up. You know who reminds me of having gobs of talent but shit body language? Ryan Leaf. That kid had all the talent in the world. What a waste.

Simpson is a leader so it doesn’t appear to me the issue is his head, he is smart and respected on the field.

He just holds onto the ball too long, is small, and absolutely sucks when facing a blitz

I don't think the Jets will take Simpson at 16. Mougey is highly focused on value and Simpson doesn't fit the value of the number 16 pick in my opinion. My guess is the Jets won't pick a QB until at least the 4th round and it will be someone like Allar or Beck. Simpson could turn out to be great, but I don't think the Jets will draft him at 16. There are too many risks associated with him. In addition, Mougey hired my high school friend to be the Jet's data analytics guru, so this shows the team is serious about evaluating risk.
