LOL exactly …. However the figures work out Fields is not going to starve.

Cliff notes - the money invested in the QB position for the Jets next year is next to nothing.

I was not surprised, I actually brought up the idea about trading Fields before it happened and when many folks just wanted to release him. Still, Mooge did a good job there: it was not a trivial maneuver to get value back as he had a high guaranteed number of 10 mil and 10 more were going to get guaranteed later.

As I said before, while Fields absolutely sucked here where I wanted him benched, he hasn't been this bad since his rookie year. I do think better coaches can get more out of him, like Arthur Smith got last year. Which is one of the reasons why my opinion of Tanner (C+) is actually lower than most on this board. And now we have 3 HCs who worked with him closely, needed a good OC, and did not want him for that role.

And even though we have different coaches now, Fields could not stay. Reich likes pocket passers, and Fields is not it. Besides, after he didn't want to play last year worrying about soft tissue injury and then went on IR with something minor, the door here is closed for him.

It was the best scenario for both sides to move on.

Oh, no question, but he still shouldn't have aired that out loud. I guess this was Woody Johnson's adjustment after the other idiot brother, Christopher Johnson, said that Adam Gase was an offensive genius. We can't have those sorts of comments said out loud again, so let's say something else out loud in the other direction that has even worse optics! o_O

Edit: Christopher autocorrected to Christoff. What am I in a foreign movie?

The unused CAP is rolling over, so having him off the books this year vs a smaller charge this year and another next year with unused CAP rolling over into the next to cover, it does not matter. The CAP gain here is 3 mil. That reduces our overall CAP commitment. Plus a 6th round pick. Good trade by Mooge.

Slightly better actually: Fields for Geno AND a 7th round pick :) Mooge is the man!

back after a long, long vacation....moved from upstate in the Vampire State of NY to the sunshine state of Florida,
where the police actually arrest and courts actually prosecute and jail criminals.
cops don't sit on the side of road just to issue speeding tickets because the state needs money to fund vote buying welfare programs.
    they actually fight crime, instead.
plus, no state income tax extortion maks it easier for teams to attract free agents.

as for the Jets,i want the GM to keep adding picks, using them, an not trading away them.
if you did your homework, let the draft come tp you, and not waste any picks trading up for another bust

No, it’s the guaranteed 10m, of which we pay 7m. And he is off the books next year.

Something for nothing, plus KC picks up some salary. Sounds good to me.

Yeah I thought I understood the cap decently well, I get proration of bonuses and such…what I wasn’t sure of was the difference between guaranteed vs. non-guaranteed salary…so putting aside signing bonus, if we have the player for $20M of which only $10M is guaranteed, and we trade him, I wasn’t sure if we get hit with the full $20M salary, or only the $10M guaranteed salary.

It sounds like only the guaranteed part, so in this case, we get hit with the $10M guaranteed, less the $3M that KC is paying, so a hit of $7M (plus whatever part of his signing bonus is still left to recognize).

    Is that right?

absolutely NOT. i spent decades in upstate NY having buffalo's historically choking football and hockey teams shoved down our throats on a daily basis.

not just the fake news Rochester media, but NYC sports channel game blackouts , both on cable, satellite, and steaming.
also, ads for stores like car dealers and Wegmans with people dressed in their gear....

NONE of that here...:p. not moving back to the Vampire State, won't even visit relatives in NYC area.

Congratulations on the move, where in Florida do you move to? My entire family lives in Tampa area, they want me to move down when I retire in a couple years, I’m looking at Ocala area.

I also agree with your assessment on not trading picks, let the board come to you.

Spot on. We save 3 million had we just released him, plus no cap hit next year.

Basically, 10 mil of his contract is fully guaranteed, and the other 10 gets guaranteed at the start of the season if he is on the roster. Which was a 0% chance. So, in order to get traded, he had to redo his contract and basically remove that second 10 mil completely. I am not sure if it came out yet, but I am sure it will at some point. His new contract will be 1 year 10 mil, 7 of which will be paid by us and 3 by the Chiefs. There will be no new guarantees at the start of the season. If he did not agree to that, we could have have held him for a while and then waived him before the second 10 mil get guaranteed, which could be much later. And there is offset clause too.

So, he was playing for 10 mil this year regardless. But it is beneficial to him to get with the Chiefs as quickly as possible, and same for the Chiefs, they want to have him for OTAs to learn. He is their #1 QB for a while as Mahomes is seriously hurt. So, they gave us 3 mil and a 6th rounder to release him right away effectively. Great work by Mooge to play the leverage effectively and not to release him early.
